LA Artlab presents FIRE ESCAPE, a group showing of artwork thematically inspired by the concept of fire. The show features new work specifically created for the exhibit by 15 innovative emerging artists within the LA Artlab collective. Pieces on display will include individual and group installations, mixed media, painting, drawing, photography, video and digital media.
Also on view: the group’s latest collaborative project, a wall-to-wall installation entitled Fire Sale, will feature a bricolage of over 1000 objects that have been created or selected by each of the 15 participating artists. The installation is designed to work on both the macro and micro levels in terms of viewer experience. Fire Sale seen as a whole from afar will show a visually unified system of displayed objects and patterns. The piece will also reflect, on closer examination, a mix of ideas and concepts based on each individual artist’s point of view regarding the chosen objects. In keeping with the Fire Sale concept, every piece in the installation will be priced individually for sale.
The group installation, along with individual artworks, will be on display and for sale during the opening and closing events on May 12th and 19th. Additional FIRE ESCAPE viewings can be arranged May 13 – May 20 by appointment. 50% of all Fire Escape art sale proceeds and 100% of all donations will benefit the Firefighters Charitable Foundation.
http://www.ffcf.org LA ArtLab was founded in June of 2005 with the goal of creating a strong network of artists focused on creative collaboration, artistic experimentation, community involvement and public service. The LA Artlab community is an international mix of artists with diverse backgrounds and a wide range of approaches to art making. The group meets regularly to critique and discuss art, collaborate on work and inspire artistic exploration. The group is currently in the process of planning several upcoming thematically based L.A. area art shows.
Upstairs at the Market Gallery, owned and operated by The City Market of Los Angeles, is located above one of the oldest produce markets in the country and provides space to emerging and established artists.
