Why Clinton, Obama, Edwards, Romney & Schwarzenegger Don't Support Single-Payer Health Care.
with
Dr. Stephanie Woolhandler, Asst. Prof. of Medicine, Harvard Medical School & co-founder of Physicians for a National Health Program.
With 47 million U.S. citizens uninsured, National Health Care is the overwhelming domestic concern in opinoin polls. While politicians scramble to address this issue, most build on the current system of private insurance whose inefficiency & profit-taking according to Woolhandler are the major cause of the
problem. The latest attempts at reform are the Massachusetts and California experiments and proposals recently put forth by Presidential Candidate John Edwards. But, despite growing grass-roots support, the single-payer solution towards is
seemingly off the political radar screens. So, is half a loaf better
than none?

Taxi Workers Alliance Protests GPS Spy Ware in Taxis
With
Bhairavi Desai, Executive Director, NY Taxi Workers Alliance
The New York Taxi Workers Alliance is mounting a campaign calling upon all drivers to stop the Taxi and Limousine Commission's proposed GPS tracking of taxis, mandatory credit/debit card payments
and a backseat monitor to play ads for passengers. Drivers are also enraged by the ,400 purchase price and monthly maintenance fee of 5. They will lose money putting in the system, get ticketed if the
passenger vandalizes it and lose income in surcharges on debit/credit card fares and pay out of pocket if the charge doesn't process.
