The escalating cost of the Iraq War and inflation are creating a financial strain for the working class across America and the rising cost for gasoline is the breaking point for millions of household budgets. The difficult decisions associated with rising gasoline prices are numerous, the ability to make the house payment or getting a notice of foreclosure, having an apartment or having to move back in with the parents, making the car payment or the fear of having your vehicle reprocessed, being able to pay your bills on time or receiving turn off notices in the mail.
In California gasoline prices have jumped more than 50 cents since November 2006 and more than 25 cents in the past two weeks. In some areas gas prices have jumped from .24 a gallon for 87 octanes, to .84 a gallon. The price of premium and diesel have topped the .00 mark.
The Democrats and Republicans have conducted hearing on Capitol Hill regarding last years record industry profits, Exxon Mobil earning more than billion in profits; however the Democrats and Republicans appear to be constrained by big oil.
In California hundreds of thousands of minimum wage earners received a 75 cents per hour pay increase at the beginning of the 2007, now only nine weeks into the year one third of their pay increase will be needed to pay the higher prices at the pumps; to make trips to and from work.

In 1980 Stewart Alexander, the crusader against rising gasoline prices, began his campaign against the oil companies when lines for gasoline were stretched for blocks on the street. The oil companies gained control of congress and America while politicians were campaigning for votes. Jimmy Carter lost and the oil companies won. Alexander had a slogan that read, “If they don’t fight for my gas, don’t fight for my vote.”
Today we want 87 octane and diesel at or below .25 a gallon and we want the Democrats and Republicans to take action to control rising gasoline prices or to get out.
