Los Angeles, California. San Gabriel River Ranger District’s Crystal Lake Recreation Area Update

The Crystal Lake Creation Area, located in the Angeles National Forest within the San Gabriel River Ranger District, has been receiving repairs and restoration through the work of contractors and unpaid volunteer organizations in the hopes that the Recreation Area will eventually be re-opened.

The work is part of the restoration efforts taken in the aftermath of the Curve and Williams fires, and as a result of the beetle infestation which has destroyed much of the area’s forested stands.

Currently the highway leading up to the lake area is closed – highway 39 North of Azusa, California – at around mile marker 29, North of the Rincon Fire Station and the Environmental Education Center approximately 12 miles North of the base of the mountain range.

Los Angeles area visitors to the San Gabriel Mountains who wish to keep informed about the status of the Crystal Lake area can get unofficial but up-to-date information at http://www.CrystalLake.NAME/

NOTE: This update is not an official U. S. Forest Service press release.
