Activist Jim DeMaegt Arrested for Alleged Email Threat to Dubya

Jim DeMaegt, Activist

On January 3, 2007, Jim DeMaegt was visited by the Secret Service at his home in Los Angeles. The Secret Service informed Jim that he was being investigated for supposedly issuing death threats against President Bush based on an email he had sent out. Although, the exact email in question is not known at this time, Jim did send out an email entitled, “Internet Indictment of G. W. Bush and Call for Hanging Until Dead at the Capitol Rotunda.”

The email itself is void of an actual death threat and anyone that knows Jim will tell you that he is incapable of hanging Bush in the Capitol Rotunda or anywhere else for that matter. Jim’s intent in the email is clearly his opinion on the verdict rendered against Saddam Hussein for his crimes in Iraq.

In the course of the Secret Service’s visit to Jim, he called the LA Police to have witnesses to the search and seizure taking place and to have the Secret Service removed from his property; the Secret Service planned to confiscate Jim’s PC and other belongings. In an ironic (though not surprising) twist of events, the police arrested Jim for obstructing an officer of the law.

Jim is to be arraigned on March 5, 2005 – more details later.

Jim is a long time activist, having worked with Cesar Chavez and other unions over the past 40 years or more.

In solidarity with Jim.
