Ban is "postponed" at LACC! An unfinished victory, we STILL was Det. Spelatz Fir

As of November 20th ( 6 days after receiving the suspension notice) the administration backed down from banning Julia Wallace, Arturo Velasquez and Ben Alvarez from suspension until " an independent investigation was completed". Because of the pressure from staff, students, faculty and pressuring "liberal" politicians to act the administration has backed down. Students still demand woman-hating detective Spelatz be fired.

Almost a week ago three students received letters suspending them from LACC and the other 8 district community colleges. They said that we were "disrupting classes" had an unlawful assembly and "willfully disobedient" when we and 30+ others marched into the sheriffs office November 1st to demand the immediate remove of Detective Spelatz.

Earlier that night Detective Spelatz had been making comments about the rape on campus to students. He said, "Women who report rape were just drunk the night before" among other hateful things (see article on la indymedia website). Spelatz is the lead detective investigating the rape on campus and this is what he thinks about the women he is supposed to protect?!

For filing complaints against him and putting pressure on the administration to take action three students were retaliated against with suspension two of which were the only ones allowed to file a complaint against the sheriffs! The other person is a close acquaintance to the witness and other suspension victim.

Although the sheriff’s department and their LACC lapdogs have backed down from the suspensions they still refuse to discipline Detective Spelatz. Everywhere Detective Spelatz is, is a place unsafe for women. Get him off the LACC! Remove him from the Sheriff’s department.

Students for Educational Reform (SER) is going to the LACC District meeting THIS WEDNESDAY @3:30PM (Wilshire and 7th -770 Wilshire Blvd) to demand:
* Spelatz removal from the LA County Sheriffs
* Rape/Gender sensitivity compulsory course for all sheriffs at LACC
* Crime statistics for LACC and the District
* Better lighting and a emergency phones posted around the campus

Thank you for helping us get the charges dropped but still need to get rid of Spelatz!
