The Annual Veterans Day Parade and Community Health Fair in Historic Filipino town in Los Angeles will be held on Saturday, November 11, 2005 from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm.The event will start with the unveiling of the Filipino World War II Memorial Monument at the Lake Street Park 227 N. Los Angeles - With the fighting slogan“”Family Reunification and Veterans Equity, Now, Filipino Americans and their allies in Los Angeles are all set for the 6th JFAV Annual Veterans Day. The Veterans Day Parade and Community Health Fair in Historic Filipino town in Los Angeles will be held on Saturday, November 11, 2005 from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm.

Unveiling of the World War II Memorial for Filipino American WWII Veterans

The annual community event will start with the unveiling of the Filipino World War II Memorial Monument at the Lake Street Park 227 N. Lake St. at 9:00 in the morning. The memorial monument is a tribute of the City of Los Angeles to honor the contribution of Filipino Word War II veterans during the Second World War. Invited guests are Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa, federal,state and city officials. Philippine Consulate officials, Filipino veteran, community, youth and student leaders

After the unveiling ceremonies, from Lake St.Park. The parade will start at 10:30 am with more than 25 Filipino veterans, community, youth and students organizations led by the JFAV as the parade vanguard.

The parade will end at FACLA where a cultural program and a community fair will be held around 12;30 PM after the parade. Different health providers will give free services to the community while entertainment and cultural numbers will regale the public.

Family Reunification and Full Rights for All Immigrants

The theme of this year’s celebration is “Family Reunification and Equity and Justice for Filipino World War II Veterans”. The comprehensive immigration bill that gives special immigrant status for Filipino veterans was not approved by the U.S. Congress. Hence, the need to advocate and struggle for family reunification not only for the veterans but also for the whole community.

Invited guests were Speaker Fabian Nunez,,Assemblyperson Jackie Goldberg, Delfin Lorenzana of the Philippine Embassy and Consul Helen Barber of the Philippine Consulate General Los Angeles.

Filipino veterans leaders led by Faustino Baclig and Greg Villanueva of JFAV and ACFV, Eugene Mondok of UFAV, Franco Alcebar of ACFV/LAFV, Cmdr. Manuel Aquino and Jack Vergara of SGSI and Jose Samonte of the VFP-USA Chapter will lead their organization in the program.

The 6th Annual Veterans Day Organizing and the JFAV Steering Committee is led by People’s Community Organization for Reform and Empowerrment (People’s CORE) Kappa Psi Epsilon, the Office of Council Member Eric Garcetti District 13, Justice for Filipino American Veterans (JFAV), UCLA Samahang Pilipino, Pro People Youth (KmB), Filipino American Service Group Inc (FASGI), Filipino American Community of Los Angeles (FACLA), Echo Park Community Coalition (EPCC), Search to Involve the Filipino Americans (SIPA), T. H.
