In California many police departments are mailing out red light camera tickets that you can ignore, if you are knowledgable enough to see that they are fake.
How to recognize a fake -
1. It will not have the Superior Court's name or address on them; any real always ticket does. Instead, the address shown will be the police department, or a private corporation - sometimes called the Traffic Violations Bureau - in a distant town, perhaps even out of state.
2. On the back, in small print, it will say "Do not contact the court."
If you get one of these fakes, you can ignore it. But if you respond to it, whoever you name as the driver of the car will receive a real ticket in the mail in a few days.
Don't ignore a real ticket!
If you can't imagine why your local police would send out fake tickets, or you just want more info, see http://www.highwayrobbery.net/redlightcamsticket.htm#Fakes . It is free-of-charge.
