California Election Protection Volunteers Needed

As you're probably aware, voting rights are still under attack, and we need your help more than ever this year. Many states experienced widespread voter suppression problems in 2004 -- and another election of national significance is just around the corner on November 7.

This year, Working Assets has joined forces with the Mainstreet Moms

and VoteTrustUSA to form Pollworkers for Democracy -- a non-partisan

effort to get more people involved in supporting our elections and our

democracy. We all need to get involved where it matters most --

working at the polls and preventing voter suppression on Election Day.

When you sign up with Pollworkers for Democracy, you'll be on the

front lines, running the election and being right there to monitor,

report, and even solve problems as they happen on Election Day.

It works like this: you contact your local elections office to sign up

as an official pollworker in your area. On November 7, you'll work at

a polling place in your community, and get paid! Pollworkers for

Democracy will provide you with additional information to supplement

your pollworker training, and also a system to track and report any

problems that occur at the polls.

Your work as a pollworker will be integral to ensuring a fair election

where all voters are able to exercise their right to cast a ballot.

Volunteers who participated in the program in primary elections

earlier this year had the following comments:

• "I knew more about the clerk's, assistant clerk's, opscan

inspector's and registrars' jobs than they did."

• "There was a lot of confusion regarding when to hand out

provisional ballots. My experience helped the Clerk this time."

• "It was a great idea to have us trained as pollworkers, rather

than pollwatchers. This way we can make sure the process is run

according to law and that votes are counted as accurately as

possible."

Can we count on your help with this extremely important project?

California.

Thank you for working to build a better world.
