…from The Tidings (Archdiocese of Los Angeles) :

“St. Joseph of Carondelet Helen Prejean, author of ‘Dead Man Walking: An Eyewitness Account of the Death Penalty in the United States’ which spawned an Oscar-winning movie, will discuss her ongoing work campaigning against the death penalty and counseling individual death row prisoners at the St. Joseph Center Auditorium in Orange Sept. 30. The 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. day, sponsored by the Center for Spiritual Development, will include an afternoon panel featuring a person wrongly convicted and a victim's relative. The fee includes lunch. To register, call (714) 744-3175, x4409 or e-mail gscharff@csorange.org.”

What about those of us who would have the fifty dollars but not the time (or proximity) to attend?

Most importantly, what of those who might have the time, but would find the fee prohibitive?

Well, we can’t solve the first problem, but can relieve the latter.

What if we were to send a contribution (in full or in part) to enable someone else to attend, with the stipulation that the excess be passed along to Sister Helen’s prison apostolate? Even a buck in an envelope would help!

Cardinal Mahony and the Center for Spiritual Development are to be commended for their adult approach to the serious issues we face today.

“When I was a child, I spake as a child, I understood as a child, I thought as a child: but when I became a man, I put away childish things.” ~ 1 Corinthians 13:11.
