Lawyer and official of the Cuban Foreign Ministry Alejandro García del Toro denounced that the US is aspiring to give citizenship to international terrorist Luis Posada Carriles, thus favoring his liberation.

García del Toro is ministerial coordinator of Cuba-US Legal Affairs and said the US is trying to grant him the citizenship to avoid extradition or deportation.

He said that his illegal entry makes him susceptible to laws that go beyond US legislation, that could include extradition and fulfilment of UN resolutions.

He cited the US Patriot Act and the Department of Homeland Security s responsibility, which could include deportation, and also reminded of the US-Venezuela Extradition Treaty and how that relates to the fact that Posada is a fugitive from Venezuela justice.

García del Toro compared Posada Carriles to the case of the Cuban Five in the sense that both cases involve media-generated hatred of Cuba, while the former included an explosion of a civilian aircraft in 1976.

"The decision in the latter case against the Five Cubans could be repeated with Posada now, in the reverse sense," he concluded.
