The Yuma, AZ Sheriff’s Dept. is reporting that a Chevy Suburban carrying 9 undocumented migrants has crashed killing 9 and injuring 12. Five of the 12 injured are in critical condition.
The SUV reportedly was carrying up to 22 people when it swerved in order to avoid a spike strip laid into place by the U.S. Border Patrol.
The driver apparently drove off road in an attempt to make a U-turn when the vehicle, presumably carrying too much weight, rolled over.
This stretch of the Yuma, AZ desert is the nation’s no. 1 migrant smuggling location, however, the Yuma Border Patrol reported a drop from 11,522 in June 2005 to 6,030 in June this year.
Although the Yuma Sector Border Patrol reported a 48% drop in undocumented migrant apprehensions, some experts believe it is due to migrants being forced to use professional smugglers to help them cross the border since the settler nation has launched its latest crackdown on what they deem as “illegal” border crossings.
