A weekly 30 minute review of news and opinion, recorded from a shortwave radio. With times and freqs for listening at home. 2 files- broadcast and slow-modem streaming. Free to rebroadcast. China, Netherlands, Spain, Cuba, and Russia.

Dear Radio Friend,
The latest Shortwave Report (August 4) is up at the website
http://www.outfarpress.com/outfarpress/shortwave.shtml in both broadcast quality (13.3MB) and quickdownload or streaming form (3.3MB) (29:00)

This week's show features stories from China Radio International, Radio Netherlands, Spanish National Radio, Radio Havana Cuba, and the Voice of Russia.
From CHINA- The body of the Chinese UN observer murdered by Israeli troops was returned to China- the UN wants clear answers as to why the UN post was attacked. Fidel Castro has said his health is stable and that Cuba is stable as well. Iran's Foreign Minister called for an immediate ceasefire between Israel and Hizbollah, and criticized the UN for inaction in the escalating war.
From NETHERLANDS- A report from Lebanon with a member of the International Red Cross, discussing the obstacles civilians face if they try to escape from the deadly bombing raids which Israel never stopped doing. Then a review of the Dutch press covering the war in Lebanon- only 1 in 3 Dutch citizens sympathize with Israel's attacks
From SPAIN- In Colombia, a Spanish official said Spain would continue to try to promote peace in the country, while a car bomb exploded in Bogota. The new Peruvian President volunteered a salary reduction for himself, and in Mexico City traffic was jammed by citizens demanding a recount in the recent Presidential election.
From CUBA- More on the protests in Mexico City which are intended to remain until a vote by vote recount is completed or the election annulled for numerous irregularities throughout the campaign. A Viewpoint on Castro’s health and the stability of the Cuban populous. US fasters from Code Pink met with Iraqi Parliamentarians in Jordan to discuss a peace plan for Iraq. The UN Environmental Program has grave concern over the oil pollution into Lebanese waters following a bombing raid on a power station by Israel- nearly as much oil has leaked out as happened in the Exxon oil spill in Valdez Alaska.
From RUSSIA- The UN has said the humanitarian situation in Gaza and Lebanon are near disasters. The Syrian President said the Israeli attacks are part of a planned campaign supported by major world powers. Then an opinion piece on whether Israel can be pressured into a ceasefire by the international community.
There is an article about the Shortwave Report by Cassandra Roos on line at- http://www.campusprogress.org/soundvision/780/big-stories-shortwaves

All that plus times and frequencies for listening at home. It's free to rebroadcast, please notify me if you're airing it and haven't notified me in the last month, please mention the website if you only air a portion. If you just want to listen and have a slow connection, try the streaming version- lower sound quality but good enough and way easier if you don't have a high-speed internet connection. If streaming is a problem because of your slow connection, download the smaller file- it takes 20 minutes or less, and will play swell in any mp3 player application (RealPlayer, Winamp, Quicktime, iTunes, etc) you have on your computer.
This program will be aired on Friday afternoon at 4:30pm (PDST) on KZYX/Z Philo CA, you might be able to stream via <http://www.kzyx.org >
There are several other streams that work better- < http://www.freakradio.org >Freak Radio Santa Cruz  now streams this program on Friday at 9:00am and Saturday at 11am(PDST)
The Shortwave Report may be downloaded as a podcast from < http://www.radio4all.net > or iTunes (search for "shortwave" in podcasts)
Check out the amazing streams at < http://www.radicalradio.org >
And the Partytown streams are great and informative- <http://www.partytown.com/radio >

I hope you'll listen and air this if you're connected with a radio station. I am still wondering how to get financially compensated for the 25 hours I put into this program weekly- any ideas are appreciated. Any stations rebroadcasting this (or listeners) are welcome to donate for production costs. You can do so through the website. Many thanks to those that have donated! No Guilt! (maybe a little)

--Every gun that is made, every warship launched, every rocket fired signifies in the final sense, a theft from those who hunger and are not fed, those who are cold and are not clothed. This world in arms is not spending money alone. It is spending the sweat of its laborers, the genius of its scientists, the hopes of its children. This is not a way of life at all in any true sense. Under the clouds of war, it is humanity hanging on a cross of iron.
-Dwight D Eisenhower
