>>> PLEASE DISTRIBUTE WIDELY <<< Monday, July 31, 2006 MINUTEMAN FUNDRAISER DRAWS NEWPORT BEACH CITY COUNCILMAN CENSURED FOR RACIST INSULTS 80 anti-immigrant activists, most from outside Costa Mesa, join the festivities By DUANE J. ROBERTS duaneroberts92804@yahoo.com COSTA MESA, CALIF -- It was a perfect Sunday afternoon for a barbecue in Fairview Park. Not a cloud was in the sky and a cool ocean breeze blew off most of the muggy heat that Californians have endured lately. Gilchrist Angels, a group co-founded by wealthy Laguna Beach "Minutewoman" Eileen Garcia, was holding a fundraiser for Costa Mesa mayor and honorary "Minuteman Project" member Allan Mansoor, who is seeking re-election this November. Everybody had a good time, including Mansoor. A boyish grin stretched across his face as he sat down and autographed T-shirts with American flags imprinted on the backside for $50 each. He gleefully accepted when Garcia plunked down a final $500 bid to lock in a future date with the eligible bachelor/Minuteman/Mayor. Where there is cash, there are politicians. Costa Mesa mayor pro-tem Eric Bever munched down hot dogs and chips. Huntington Beach congressman Dana Rohrabacher made his standard, long-winded, anti-immigrant, "pro America" speech. Also present was Newport Beach city council member Dick Nichols, whom Mansoor introduced as an honored guest. But like many of the other Minuteman types present, Nichols has a colorful past. He was censured in 2003 by his council colleagues for making racist insults about Mexicans. Nichols had told a reporter at the time that he was concerned with a proposed expansion of the park area at Corona del Mar State Beach because "with grass we usually get Mexicans coming in there early in the morning and they claim it as theirs, and it becomes their personal, private grounds all day." {1} It was no surprise to see Nichols at the mayor's fund raising event. After all, Mansoor is a bigot magnet. There seems to be a mutual attraction between the mayor and a wide variety of racists, mostly from outside of Costa Mesa, who he obviously hopes to rely on to fund his political future (not many local residents attended the Sunday barbecue, incidently). Since being elected to the city council in 2002, Mansoor has made his reputation by bashing gays, trying to "clean up" the city's (immigrant) west side, appointing a known white supremacist to a redevelopment board (2), scapegoating local "illegal" immigrants for heinous crimes -- despite a low crime rate, and by stifling free speech at city council meetings. Good times at the fundraiser were interrupted by occasional shouts of "Mansoor you're a racist" and "racists go home" from a small group of demonstrators. Most of the mayor's supporters handled it in stride and some engaged in spirited discussions with their political opponents. Garcia, the Minutewoman, and the Minuteman ("law and order") Mayor seemed to be the only ones who couldn't handle free speech in the park. Garcia tried to mislead demonstrators and unembedded journalists into believing that they were "illegals" and the park was closed to them. And when the mayor noticed he was being photographed by unembedded journalists, he raced off in a huff to complain to the police, but to no avail. ======== John Earl of http://www.ocorganizer.com contributed to this report. While the mayor was signing his T-shirts he noticed that I was there and may have seen Duane as well. Then he raced over to the police, obviously to try to get us out of there or stop the photographing. Then the police apparently gave him a long needed lesson about First Amendment freedoms.

This is what the Bush regime's Amerikkka has come to. White supremacists feel emboldened to be out in public, standing on street corners and sidewalks waving Nazi and Confederate flags, gathering in public parks...
It's outrageous. Every one of these white supremacists are almost certainly Christians, too.

Mr/Ms WNN:
Nobody broke up their meeting or tried to. On the contrary, Minuteman fascists regularlly try to break up groups of lawfully assembled immigrants, sometimes brandishing firearms in the process. The Mayor, by the way, is an expert and well known for breaking up lawfull meetings in order to prevent freedom of speech by his opponents. He (the city of Costa Mesa) is currently being sued for that. Minutemen folks also regularly exagerate and lie about alleged attacks on their rights. Your post is an example of that.

I watched the videos -- quite informative but typical. I don't think we learned anything new here that wasn't covered in High School history class detailing the rise of Nazi Germany.
But I have to ask the white supremacist scumbags: Who cleaned up after you? After your little hate festival in a public park, who came along and cleaned up your mess?
What's that you say? Was it white guys who so often in America compete heavily for those kinds of jobs, perhaps?
A lovely picnick, complete with what looked like salad, bread, and what might have been corn chips. Who cultivated, weeded, and picked those vegitables you scumbags ate in a public park?
What's that you say? Was it white guys again who so often in America compete heavily for _those_ kinds of jobs as well, perhaps?
Irony: If it weren't for some 12 million illegal Mexicans in the United States, these scumbag racists would not have been able to have lunch -- at least not at a quarter of the price they paid for it.
Disgusting. Utter filth parading openly in America, the supposed "land of the free" and "home of the brave." Instead we've got neo-Nazi scumbags walking around out in the open in our public parks, not a care in the world or any embarrassment.
My opinions only and only my opinions, predicated upon what I saw in the videos offered. Your opinions may be mistaken.

But, you completely ignore my point during the video interview and replace it with one I didn't make. You were asked repeatedly if you would also appoint a neo-Nazi to a redevelopment board that was supposed to help minorities. And it was explained to you that the neo-Nazi in question was a prolific writer of neo-Nazi propaganda. And you simply chose to ignore the actual questions and actual facts. Also, you tried to separate "thoughts" from "actions." You essentially said it's okay to be a Nazi at heart, as far as being on a government committee is concerned, just as long as you don't actually kill anybody, etc., which such stupid logic on its face that I don't even need to explain why.

Let me help: 71 meg is nothing. A high resolution, high quality video that takes 71 meg is nothing unusual or unique, it doesn't mean that you or the disgusting ideologies you harbor are special.

On a side note, Don Silva posted somewhere indicating that I'll feel the supposed effects of this issue in every part of my life. Well I'm about to get hire again for a nice job. And I don't know the Spanish language and didn't need to and I didn't have to compete against people here against immigration laws. Gee, I guess I'm still waiting for Don's prediction to come true.

Well heres hoping Im not deleted. Since the story is essentially about me, I would like a rebuttal
"And it was explained to you that the neo-Nazi in question was a prolific writer of neo-Nazi propaganda"
First off, I reject the term Nazi for anybody but the real National Socialists circa 1928- 1944. They were in a league of their own and you calling a city councilman a Nazi just shows how much history you know. The real Nazis slaughtered many millions and saying some guy is the same thing because he called someone a name is ignorant on so many levels. To put it mildly I am unimpressed by you're "explanation" that someone is a Nazi, since you apparently dont have a clue what one was.
You seem to have a problem with my insistance in separating thoughts from deeds. To bad for you. I have no problem at all with some white guy thinking he is superior to all other races. I also have no problem with Jews thinking they are Gods chosen people, With Muslims who say only they are heard by God, With Nation of Islam members who say only blacks are humans and that blue eyed devils are genetic experiments gone bad. I further have no problem with Mexicans who believe they work harder than whites. I don't care if Asians think they are smarter than me. I have no problem with the Mormons who are the only true faith. I don't care if democrats think all republicans are stupid. If you John Earl want to proclaim yourself the smartest guy on Earth, fine by me. Go with it. I am not offended. You are entitled to believe anything you want. There are laws against some acts but never against thoughts. Its a distinction lost on the "its the thought that counts" generation.
And finally, I hope you are honest enough to admit that who Mansoor appointed would be unnoticed if he had no intention of enforcing immigration laws in Costa Mesa. I know it, you know t. The appointment is a non-issue. And name calling rarely win a debate in the public forum. Regards Chris

I didn't call anybody a Nazi, but a "neo-Nazi."
I did not call the Mayor or any city councilman a Nazi or even a neo-Nazi, but I asked why they appointed the latter to a redevelopment committee that deals with minorities when just about everybody, except maybe you, knows that racism leads to racist actions.
If you compare being a Nazi, or having a Nazi thought process, to Mexicans thinking they are harder workers than white people (supposing that is true), then you haven't a clue in the world what Nazism or neo-Nazism is. Or perhaps it's just your way of rationalizing away a dispicable act of racist pandering by the mayor.
As for your claim that the Mayor's neo-Nazi problem (and, I might add, his Minuteman racism problem) would be of no importance if not for the election, that's false. It has been an issue since 2002.
However, it was only under pressure from people like me, in an election year, that the Mayor finally tried to distance himself from the neo-Nazi philosophy of Mr. Millard. But that doesn't explain why he voted to appoint him in the first place, nor why he is a member of a neo-fascist and racist group like the Minuteman Project, which believes in a superior white protestant race over the Catholic Mexican 'race,' or his "sisters," the Gilchrist Angels.

I see no difference at all in the terms "nazi" or "neo-nazi" Both are intended as extreme perjoratives. Would there be any difference in being called a "pedophile" versus a "neo-pedophile"? Take any insult you want and tack "neo-" on the front. Has anything really changed? If there was a term worse than "nazi" I'm sure you would tack neo on it and use it on people who disagree with you. Your own website makes liberal use of terms like "minutenazis".
But I don't mind. Call me any epithet you like. People argue with insults when they are short of any facts or reasoning ability. Feel free to use the same doctored photographs at the next rally( Air Marshal Sensenbrenner or Mansoor with a kalishnikov are my favorites) Make liberal use of sarcasm ( three minutemen were bored to death) Lie, twist, exagerate and most of all proclaim guilt by association. Its a small world and if somebody isn't a bigot,he knows somebody who is or knows somebody who knows a bigot.

I think I agree with you to some extent: perhaps the biggest difference between the Nazi and neo-Nazi (or the fascists and the neo-fascists) is that the latter, so far, lack the power and influence of the former (if you recall your history) and they often try to put a happy face on Hitler or cover their fascist hearts with their hands while they salute the American flag at city council meetings. They distort history, deny their obvoius racism, even as they are expressing it, deny the Holocaust, for example (like your friend seemed to be doing in the video, remember: "what gas chambers?") and call themselves gene purists or white separatists, or minutemen. And they think it's no big deal that the mayor of Costa Mesa appointed a white supremacist, neo-Nazi to a government board.

I saw the movie "Deliverence" and somehow the idea of sleeping out in the desert with Jim Gilchrist and his merry band of beer drinking minutemen just doesn't seem like a good idea. But thanks anyway.
But, seriously, I have hung out with lots of Minutemen lots of times at protests, meetings, interviews, fundraisers, etc., and there's no doubt at all about their white supremacist views. Some are more blatant than others. I have also looked into the background of some of their leaders, Barbara Coe and Mayor Allan Mansoor, for example. So I don't need to go to the desert to find the neo-Nazi types or those who pander to them. All I have to do is go to Costa Mesa to watch the mayor or Laguna Beach to see the SOS, Jim Gilchrist, the Klan, neo-Nazis, etc, etc. etc.
Here's one for you: Last Wednesday a Latino person was murdered in a drive by shooting. Some others were wounded and hospitalized. The idiot foot in his mouth Minuteman Mayor, who kisses neo-Nazi/neo-fascist butt, immediately started mouthing off about how such crimes are the result of having too many immigrants and soup kitchens in the city. He was assuming, of course, like the dumb racist pig he is, that the killer is a gang member. Actually, the police said that the suspect is white.
Now, wouldn't it be something if the killer turned out to be a neo-Nazi skinhead type? And who in the hell is creating the racist climate in Costa Mesa that might lead to such a crime? You know damn good and well who. No need to go to the desert Chris, just look at some of your local heros.
