This almost never happens a cop gets busted for a crime and he actually gets punished for it. Jerry Mangum must have really pissed off his cop boss for this to happen to him.

Ex-officer is sentenced in cash theft from family

PHOENIX - A former police officer who stole $2,100 from a family as he investigated a burglary at their home in February was sentenced Tuesday to three months in jail and two years' probation.

Jeremy Mangum, 26, will be eligible for work furlough while in jail. He pleaded guilty to a theft charge in May, according to the Maricopa County Attorney's Office.

Mangum also must complete 500 hours of community service and surrender his police officer certification.

He had been a Phoenix police officer for three years at the time of his arrest and worked out of the Maryvale precinct.

Mangum was sent to investigate a burglary in a west Phoenix home on Feb. 27.

The residents became suspicious of him, discovered the cash missing and reported the incident. Investigators recovered the money from the officer and arrested him.
