Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey Protest!!

Ringling Bros and Barnum & Bailey will be coming to LA. As most people probably know the circus is nothing more then a traveling torture show. This circus act though is one of the worst out there and continues to steal wildlife for human entertainment all the while brutally training these animals and keeping them confined in horrible conditions.

On March 6, 2006, Kenneth Feld, the CEO of Ringling Brothers Circus, tooks the stand in a civil suit filed by the People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals, also known as PETA. The group is seeking $1.8 million in damages, and alleges that the circus hired people to infiltrate the organization. Yes. Apparently counting on P.T. Barnum's exhortation that "there's a sucker born every minute,"

Ringling Brothers and Barnum & Bailey Circus would have the public believe that the mounting evidence that it uses bull hooks on its elephants is nothing more than "old allegations" by "animal rights extremists" with a "political agenda."Ringling is wrong on both counts. As a result of a Freedom of Information Act case against the U.S. Department of Agriculture, the ASPCA recently obtained hundreds of pages of documentation of Ringling's routine use of force and pain to make elephants perform on demand. Adding to recent testimony of former Ringling Bros. employees and years of video footage, these newly released records show that handlers routinely use a club with a sharp metal point called an ankus or bull hook to "train" the elephants and keep them in line.

We will not let them pass through our city without our voices being heard.
Please come down and show some support.

Arrive 30 minutes prior!

I saw the show last night. It was really good. The best circus I have seen in years. They really pull out all the stops for this edition. Go early, There are these crazy protest people there who still think the circus abuses the animals. It's great to watch the people going to the show laughing at them.

PETA sometimes gets a bit carried away, like saying having pets are bad, as a general statement without considering the actual conditions on a case-by-case basis. But they ARE correct about circuses and animal 'water parks' where the animals are removed from their natural environments and forced to perform tricks for our amusement as a condition of being fed, valued, and properly taken care of (maybe - sometimes), and where mistreatment, accidents and disease claim many.

PETA was involved in adopting unwanted pets and collecting donations to place them in better environments only to end up destroying them and disposing of them, their own records show.

But PETA didn't create that problem, irresponsible pet owners do. With dogs & cats (and now horses) the problem is simply overwhelming.

If everyday ordinary people took even small personal steps to alleviate the vast atrocities that are factory farms, unwanted pets and abuse of animals for amusement, organisations like PETA wouldn't be overwhelmed and wouldn't have the burden fall completely on them.

One of the easiest ways to help is to boycott all circuses, animal water parks, rodeos, bull fighting, cock fighting, dog fighting, etc - it costs nothing. In fact it saves you money and fossil fuel emissions.

So PETA provides a great example in this regard.
