Horowitz’ Violence Against the Farmers Continues

Los Angeles, July 11, 2006 – On Tuesday, July 10, 2006 between the hours of 4:00 and 5:00 p.m., an unidentified security guard, in the pay of developer Ralph Horowitz, sucker- punched a supporter of the South Central Farmers causing two breaks in the nose and as yet undetermined but seemingly serious facial damage requiring several surgeries. The attack took place on a public sidewalk outside the disputed land. Though notified of the attack immediately, the LAPD was slow in responding.

The supporter had been clearing the path of debris for the removal of Farmers’ property under an agreement with security personnel. He worked throughout the early afternoon without incident until the shift change at 4:00 p.m. when the assailant started work. The attacker began harassing the Farmers’ supporter the minute he entered the disputed land and after an exchange of words escorted him to the sidewalk where he sucker-punched him.

This is but the latest incident of violence directed against the non-violent farmers and their supporters. The evictions of earlier this month, carried out by more than 50, fully armed elements of the LAPD and the Sheriff’s Department for the benefit of Horowitz was an extremely brutal affair. The security guards who now occupy the 14 acres of what was once the largest urban farm community farm in the country are in the direct service of Ralph Horowitz, who is ultimately responsible for any criminal activity they carry out.

I have yet to see one photo of these security guards.

*How are they coming to work, are they being bused or arriving private vehicle?

*Are the guards African American as has been alleged that Hororwitz is playing the race card against the community.

since Horowitz is responsible for the actions of his employees he can can be sued :)

it is only this one security gaurd who seems to be the problem. for some reason he could not give a logical explination as to why he beat up one of the SCF supporters. He had no answer when he was confronted and he said himself that his actions made no point. various SCF supporters have had problems with this security gaurd in the past and his threats. there is no need to call the police. the police are not your friends. what have the police done for the South Central Farms and it's supporters? Nothing. Except beat you down. So don't call the police. Fuck the police. Stop trying to rely on a system that is beating you down and oppressing you. The security guards inside the farm don't know this (yet) but they're protecting their own oppressors. They threaten to "bang" on SCF supporters as if they're "banging" for their hood but they're really "banging" for a rich white capitalist name Horowitz who is banging on them and everyone else. Communication has been established with several of the security gaurds in the past and the results have been positive. This is tactically important. The more security gaurds on the inside the SCF supporters have on their side the better. (I.E: when SCF jumped the fences in direct action to disable the bulldozer , there was a reason why not eveyrone was arrested). We are all being oppressed by this system. The security gaurds are an obstical, not the main enemy. Not that it means you shouldn't defend yourself when you come under attack. If anyone attacks you then you have the right to defend yourself. period. remember this.

The leadership is to blame. Punched the wrong person.

This land belongs to the native americans not the foreigners.

You can't categorically say all cops will beat you. In this situation, this guard assaulted someone. If there were fighting words exchanged, it's a no-fault situation, but if not, why not bust him? Collect on damages for the broken nose.

If the victim had been white, I wonder how much quicker the LAPD would have been in responding. I'd expect there would have been a dozen LAPD officers there within minutes wearing full riot gear.

the victim here (steve murphy) is white. police are always slow to the scene if they aren't told that your are in urgent need and immediate danger.
