Representative Maxine Waters Speaks At South Central Farm International Solidarity Days Sunday July 9 Against The “Unconscionable Act” of Bulldozing the Farm;

Los Angeles –, U.S. Rep. Waters has declared Mr. Horowitz’s bulldozing of South Central Farm “unconscionable” and unbelievably disrespectful towards the farmers of the nation’s largest urban farm. Rep. Water’s statements were made yesterday regarding the callous and disheartening act of bulldozing the South Central Farm before the Superior Court case July 12 determining whether the sale of the land to Mr. Horowitz by the City of L.A. in 2003 was legal.
Sunday July 9 marked International Solidarity Days for South Central Farm, and the groundswell of support from around the world has heartened the farmers of South Central and let them know, as Rep. Waters said, “You are not alone.” A transcript of her statement of support will be forthcoming and posted on www.southcentralfarmers.com by the end of the day Tuesday. In regard to the upcoming court case, Rep. Waters offered these words to the farmers: “No matter what the court decides on July 12, we will not let this land go.”
The Superior Court case beginning July 12 and deciding important motions is scheduled for 9:30 a.m. in Dept. 18 of the downtown Superior Court 111 North Hill St. Los Angeles 90012. Press is encouraged to complete their forms now for permission to film in the court and cover this important case from the inside out. Judge Helen Bendix will be the trial judge. To do so, they have to submit a Form 980 to the public information office at the courthouse. The form is available on the courthouse website, www.lasuperiorcourt.org in the section marked News and Media. Fax the form to (213) 621-7642. One pool camera will be allowed inside.
