today at city council with south central farmers

by phuk minutemen Saturday, Jun. 17, 2006 at 2:41 PM

strong and united front at city hall today in defense of the south central farm

just wanted to report that we had a STRONG presence at city hall today,

there was at least a hundred or more people there, inside the mtg, many many of the campesinos /as, children, and supporters.

by the time we finally got our turn for comments, they cut us short, leaving dozens left w/ spkrs cards unable to talk, but speakers were very, very powerful, sweet, TENDER, RAGEFUL,

very compelling, and when they told us we were done, alberto led us in chants "aqui estamos, y no nos vamos" and "save the farm" which we chanted in unison walking out of the mtg room and all thru the city hall chambers (3 floors) till we got outside.
it was quite a scene, and very powerful, echoing thru the large walkways and chambers of the building....

then, we proceeded to do what we, campesinas/os, and community supporters do best---
we had a circle around a jaranera (someone playing the jarana and singing) and we all danced and sang together, smiled and embraced, as we continued to protest outside the city hall, celebrating what will always be ours--the community that has been strenghtened and built as one of the many gifts of the tierra known as the south central farm.

more reports and news to come,
more investigations as to environmental law and city planners--what we can STILL do to stop this motherfucker from demolishing our land, and lead it back to the people who rightfully deserve it.

The community really is the gift of the land, and we will always have it - if we nurture it... and I think we will.
