A weekly 30 minute review of news and opinion, recorded from a shortwave radio. With times and freqs for listening at home. 2 files- broadcast and slow-modem streaming. Free to rebroadcast. China, Netherlands, Spain, Cuba, and Russia.

Dear Radio Friend,

The latest Shortwave Report (June 9) is up at the website

http://www.outfarpress.com/outfarpress/shortwave.shtml >in both broadcast quality (13.3MB) and quickdownload or streaming form (3.3MB) (28:51)

This week's show features stories from China Radio International, Radio Netherlands, Spanish National Radio, Radio Havana Cuba, and the Voice of Russia.

From CHINA- Italy will withdraw all its troops from Iraq by the end of the year, while many Iraqis hope that all the other coalition forces will join them. The Palestinian President gave Hamas a three-day extension to accept the state of Israel or see a referendum on the subject.

From NETHERLANDS- The Council of Europe has released a report on the CIA program of extraordinary renditions- they found at least 7 European countries were used in transporting prisoners, and there is evidence of detention camps in some of those countries as well. Some in Belgium are complaining about how close Dutch coffeeshops, which sell cannabis, are to their border.

From SPAIN- Monday was the UN sponsored World Environment Day, and the emphasis was on the spread of desertification. Student demonstrations continued in Chile and Amnesty International criticized the Organization of American States for ignoring human rights problems across Latin America.

From CUBA- Former President Garcia was reelected in Peru, despite Hugo Chavez's support of his opponent. Venezuela rejects the recent US accusation that they are allowing human trafficking to go unchecked. Nicaraguans took to the streets to protest rising public transportation costs.

From RUSSIA- The Russian Foreign Minister spoke about threats from the US planned installation of missiles and mini nukes in Poland and the Czech Republic. Donald Rumsfeld criticized the Shanghai Cooperation Organization this week for allowing Iran to be an observer member.

There is an article about the Shortwave Report by Cassandra Roos on line at- http://www.campusprogress.org/soundvision/780/big-stories-shortwaves

All that plus times and frequencies for listening at home. It's free to rebroadcast, please notify me if you're airing it and haven't notified me in the last month, please mention the website if you only air a portion. If you just want to listen and have a slow connection, try the streaming version- lower sound quality but good enough and way easier if you don't have a high-speed internet connection. If streaming is a problem because of your slow connection, download the smaller file- it takes 20 minutes or less, and will play swell in any mp3 player application (RealPlayer, Winamp, Quicktime, iTunes, etc) you have on your computer.

This program will be aired on Friday evening at 7pm (PST) on KZYX/Z Philo CA, you might be able to stream via http://www.kzyx.org >

There are several other streams that work better- http://www.freakradio.org >Freak Radio Santa Cruz  now streams this program on Friday at 9:00am (PST)

The Shortwave Report may be downloaded as a podcast from http://www.radio4all.net >

Check out the amazing streams at http://www.radicalradio.org >

And the Partytown streams are great and informative- http://www.partytown.com/radio >

I hope you'll listen and air this if you're connected with a radio station. I am still wondering how to get financially compensated for the 25 hours I put into this program weekly- any ideas are appreciated. Any stations rebroadcasting this (or listeners) are welcome to donate for production costs. You can do so through the website. Many thanks to those that have donated! No Guilt! (maybe a little)

"We can't out-fight them, but we can out-think them. Every provocation throughout history has been to get us to out-fight them. And if you look at some of the little things about it, right, we're surrounded with a reality where you have to have permission to think. That's called 'Chain of Command'. See, so if you really really think about it...in their legions they don't have 'permission' to think. See, this starts to equalize out the numbers!"
