The Historic Filipinotown residents and organizations marked the centenary of the Filipino workers migration to the United States in 2006 with a successful 2nd Mayflower Festival (Flores De Mayo) last Saturday, May 27 from 11:00 AM to 5:00 PM in Historic Filipinotown, Los Angeles.

2nd Los Angeles Historic Filipinotown Flores De Mayo Festival May 27, 2006- A Success
Los Angeles-The Historic Filipinotown residents and organizations marked the centenary of the Filipino workers migration to the United States in 2006 with a successful 2nd Mayflower Festival (Flores De Mayo) last Saturday, May 27 from 11:00 AM to 5:00 PM in Historic Filipinotown, Los Angeles.
The festival was graced by two Filipino American bands- Minus and Broken Borders who played modern rock and Filipino music; folk dances by FASGI seniors and traditional arnis and close quarter combat exhibition by People’s CORE.
The event was also marked by a Santa Cruzan –a traditional Filipino cultural activity The procession of more than 30 May Queens both young and old, and their courts traverse Beverly Blvd, Rampart Ave to Temple St to Carandolet St where the procession ended at 4:00 PM. Predominantly Filipino residents in the area cheered them.
Filipinos American leaders who paid tribute to the Filipino workers contribution to the American society were: Aquilina Soriano, Executive Director of the Pilipino Workers Center; Zeny Sabocor, member of the board of directors of FASGI and the Naga City of USA, and Arturo P. Garcia of People’s CORE/ Echo Park Community Coalition (EPCC). Mike Sarmiento of PWC was the emcee.
The Filipino American immigrant advocated also praised the residents and the youth who have came out to support the immigrant rights struggle of Filipino migrant workers and all immigrants. Especiall those who came out in full force last May 1 imarch-rallies in Los Angeles and all over the United States,
The Historic Filipinotown Flores De Mayo Organizing Committee is composed of the Echo Park Community Coalition (EPCC), People's CORE, he Pilipino Workers Center (PWC), Filipino American Service Group Inc (FASGI) and the Justice For Filipino American Veterans (JFAV)
