There are several hundred people at Pershing Square, downtown L.A. protesting the appearance of Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa of Los Angeles, and the visiting President of Mexico, Vicente Fox.
Many seem to be there to draw attention to the recent massacres in Atenco, Mexico, where there were beatings and rapes, a 14 year old boy was killed, and where there are still close to 200 prisoners being detained; all to defend the rights of flower vendors to make a living on land that is being held out for a WalMart to be built on.
The South Central Farmers are also there, demanding that Mayor Antonio live up to his word and come up with the 10 million dollars promised by the city to save the farm from developers bulldozers. And what do they want to build on the land? A Warehouse for WalMart. Do we see the similarities here?
