Bill Paparian, former Mayor of Pasadena and candidate for Congress, has called on all State legislators and in particular the Democratic leadership, to support and pass AJR 39, a California resolution calling for impeachment proceedings against George W. Bush and Dick Cheney.

The resolution calls upon Congress to begin impeachment proceedings, and cites House of Representatives rules and precedents that compel impeachment proceedings if a state legislature calls for them.

Two other states, Vermont and Illinois are considering impeachment resolutions as well. Paparian also supports (and when elected to Congress will co-sponsor) House Resolution 635 that would create a Select Committee to investigate impeachable crimes by the administration, House Resolution 636 calling for censure of Bush, and House Resolution 637 calling for censure of Cheney. By email transmittal Monday, Paparian urged Democrats Carol Liu (44th Assembly District) and Sen. Jack Scott (21st State Senate Dist.) to join him in supporting AJR 39 and to vote in favor of the call for impeachment.

In addition to calling on all members of the California legislature to support and vote for this resolution immediately, Paparian challenged all candidates for state office to come out unequivocally in favor of AJR 39, and urged voters to reject any candidate that does not fully support the resolution.

“Although we need this resolution passed without delay, without waiting for an election, voters can send a clear message by voting on June 6 only for candidates – state or federal – who support the resolutions," Paparian declared.

Paparian, a Green, has focused his campaign on immediately ending the war in Iraq, and standing up to what he sees as the illegal conduct of this administration.

The 29th Congressional District covers an area surrounding Pasadena, and includes Glendale and parts of Burbank.
