Boycotters Who Favor Amnesty for Illegal Aliens Shoot Themselves in the Foot

The Solution to Illegal Aliens So what is the best option for the advocates of illegal aliens? Their best option would be to protest in front of buildings run by the government of Mexico. Like the Mexican Consulate buildings across this nation. They should protest against the extensive corruption in Mexico. Press the leaders in Mexico to remove corruption and address the issues in Mexico. Because while protests are held in America against businesses in America, not only do they hurt their own cause, they also give cover to the corruption in Mexico. If they were to protest the corruption in Mexico and press for change there, they would gain a much larger base of allies, me included.

From construction sites to retail shops across Metro Atlanta, Hispanic workers stayed away from their jobs, and their bosses shut down and locked up for the day.

And among the business owners hardest hit by the boycott were Hispanic business owners.

At Plaza Fiesta Shopping Center, on Buford Highway—there was plenty of parking, and almost nowhere to shop.

“I’m losing money today,” said Adriana Gallardo. “But that’s okay.”

Adriana Gallardo says she chose to close her jewelry business for the day. So, she had nothing to do but touch up the paint on one of her counters.

She is one of 230 shop owners at Plaza Fiesta, out of 234, who joined the boycott.
And she gave her employees the day off.

You make a point but you need to look at the REAL big picture.

The fact is that millions and millions of people are displaced every year worldwide as a result of "neo-liberal" "free trade" policies put forth by the World Bank, IMF, multi-national corporations and by pressure from the US governement which is working on behalf of big business.

Think about this: If Mexico opted out of NAFTA Bush would send the Marines down to occupy Mexico City and remove Fox.

These economic policies are designed for and by the rich. The result is that the rich benefit and regular working people in all countries lose.

Besides, the flip side of your point would be that the Minutemen types should be protesting the US government and big corporations - not for hiring the undocumented but - for implementing policies that make it a necessity for people to flee their homes in order to survive. They're not though, and their actions and rhetoric target the first victims of these economic policies.

Border security means nothing when someone has to choose between survival or relocation.

Protest Mexico?

by johnk Thursday, May. 04, 2006 at 1:15 AM

The millions have "voted with their feet" by leaving their countries of origin. It's somewhat like the Day Without and Immigrant.... except it's the "decade without the young worker the government paid money to educate." That's like, every day in Mexico.
