A 20-year-old man was arraigned Friday on charges stemming from last weekend's death of a New York State Trooper in the Syracuse area.

Authorities announced the arrest Friday afternoon during a news conference at the state police barracks in Lafayette where Trooper Craig Todeschini worked.

James Carncross of Jamesville was arraigned in Onondaga County Court on charges of aggravated manslaughter and aggravated criminally negligent homicide.

The charges come five days after Todeschini died when his state police vehicle crashed into a tree in the hamlet of Pompey Hill while chasing a speeding motorcyclist.

Carncross has a prior record and also faces parole violation charges. State police have confiscated the high-speed motorcycle Carncross was riding at speeds topping 100 miles an hour when the trooper began his pursuit. Carncross was ordered held on ten-thousand dollars bail.
