Death Threats Made Against L.A. Mayor Villaraigosa and CA LT GOV Bustamonte, Says GOV Schwarzenegger

"There's something very important that I need to speak to my fellow Californians about," Said Gov. Schwarzenegger to reporters at a news conference held in his office today.

"It has come to my attention that our Lieutenant Gov. Bustamante and our Los Angeles Mayor Villaraigosa and other elected officials of Mexican heritage have received

disturbing and hateful death threats." The Gov. continued saying.

"That is not what California stands for," Schwarzenegger said. "I've asked the district attorneys throughout our state to be vigilant and swift in their actions against those who

practice hate against our fellow citizens."

Steve Green, spokesman for Bustamonte said the lt. governor received "nasty e-mails" after attending pro-immigrant with Mayor Villaraigosa in March.

The threat was sent on a blank post card three weeks ago.

"We got one postcard from Pasadena that said words to the effect, 'All you dirty Mexicans should go back to Mexico. The only good Mexican is a dead Mexican,'" Green said.

The threat was forwarded to the California Highway Patrol, but they would not comment on it

In California, when public officials are threatened, it is the CHP who investigates but they do not comment on the details of the investigation.

Janelle Erickson, a spokeswoman for Mayor Villaraigosa's office said she did not know if any threats were made because of his position on immigration but added,

"With any elected official, you get threats from unstable people. I'm not aware of any threats directly related to his position on immigration."

CA Lt. Gov. Cruz Bustamante and Los Angeles, CA Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa are both Democrats.

It's probably the save our state and the minuteman project. They should be suspects of sending the death threats.
