PLEASE JOIN HUGE ST. PATRICK'S DAY PROTEST AT SKOSH MONAHAN'S IN COSTA MESA! The Collectivo Tonantzin, an organization dedicated toward defending the rights of undocumented workers and all oppressed peoples, will be holding a huge St. Patrick's Day protest this Friday night on the public sidewalk surrounding Skosh Monahan's Steakhouse & Irish Pub, a restaurant owned by Gary Monahan, a Costa Mesa City Councilman. The weekly protests are being held to express discontent over Monahan's decision to vote with Minuteman Mayor Allan Mansoor and Councilman Eric Bever to close the day laborer center and allow the Costa Mesa Police Department to enter into an agreement with the Bureau of Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) to enforce federal immigration law. In addition to this, the Minutemen are coming out to dine at Skosh Monahan's on Friday nights. Jim Gilchrist was present last week and is expected to show up again on St. Patrick's Day. We are asking that as many people as possible come out and spend a couple of hours picketing Councilman Monahan's restaurant! Please bring cardboard signs, musical instruments, and wear t-shirts and hats representing the groups and organizations you belong to! WHEN: Friday, March 17, 2006 6 pm - 9 pm WHERE: SKOSH MONAHAN'S STEAKHOUSE & IRISH PUB 2000 Newport Blvd, Costa Mesa (On the Northeast corner of E. 20th Street) See map for further details: http://maps.yahoo.com/maps.py?&addr=2000+Newport+Blvd&csz=Costa+Mesa,CA For more information, please contact matlazinka@hotmail.com or duaneroberts92804@yahoo.com Collectivo Tonantzin demands: 1. Re-opening of the day labor center 2. Withdraw the vote for the ICE proposal 3. The resignation of council members who voted in favor of the proposal 4. Drop all remaining charges against Coyotl Tezcatlipoca

You guys need to get a life. Instead of doing something on a holiday festive, you will be there in full hate-fest mode.
Wear green!

See: http://sf.indymedia.org/news/2006/03/1725486_comment.php (snip) We didn't stop coming when the Famine was over, either. We're still coming over, legal or not. The Minutemen would have you believe that all "illegals" come from Mexico. Don't believe it. See: http://www.irishlobbyusa.org/ (snip)

You are a racist. You will not allow an Irish celebration. This is pure racism and prejudice.
This is the new fascism at work.
I still say wear green!

While I support the issues that the Collectivo Tonantzin is fighting for.
I don't think this action is a good idea. I think its like protesting in front of Mexican taco stand on Cinco de Mayo. Disrespectful is the word.
And it could be seen by some has being anti-Irish. Believe it or not when the Irish first came to this country they faced treatment very similar to that which many immigrants are facing today. Although it was over 100 years ago the Irish families that were victimized back then do remember it has part of their family history.
Also just going into a bar full of drunken Irish is dangerous enough. :-) Pissing them off on St. Patrick Day is just plain stupid.
Collectivo Tonantzin should strongly consider calling off this action.

Kind of looks like the rights activists have abdicated their thinking entirely. Here we have another stupid, stupid notion.

Having the protest on St. Patrick's Day could be more appropriate: a great day to celebrate the rights of immigrants and to point out the total greedy hypocrisy of the owner of the restaurant who exploits immigrants, both Chicano and Irish.

Disrespectfull > is the word. Utter nonsense. The Collectivo Tonantzin has been holding protests in front of Costa Mesa City Councilman Gary Monahan's restaurant during the past three weeks. Issuing a call asking for more people to come out and demonstrate on St. Patrick's Day makes perfect sense since are likely to be more customers that day. If I were holding a weekly protest in front of a "taco stand" owned by a politician who voted the wrong way on some issue I felt strongly about, I would issue a call asking for as many people as possible to come out and protest on Cinco de Mayo as well. It's a way of making oneself more visible. > And it could be seen by some has being > anti-Irish. By whom? I'm part Irish. It doesn't offend me the slightest bit. > Believe it or not when the Irish > first came to this country they faced treatment > very similar to that which many immigrants > are facing today. Although it was over 100 > years ago the Irish families that were > victimized back then do remember it has part of > their family history. Now you know why St. Patrick's Day is a good day to have a big protest in front of Skosh Monahan's. I think the good Councilman needs to be reminded that immigrants from all over built this country from the ground up; not just "illegal aliens" from Ireland and other parts of Europe. > Also just going into a bar full of drunken > Irish is dangerous enough. :-) > > Pissing them off on St. Patrick Day is just > plain stupid. Nobody plans to piss anybody off other than the owner of the restaurant. > Collectivo Tonantzin should strongly consider > calling off this action. Nope. Sincerely, Duane J. This coming out out of the mouth of a person who also thinks it was stupid for Coyotl Tezcatlipoca to file a federal lawsuit against the City of Costa Mesa for being beaten up and permanently injured by cops on the night of January 3rd because he had the audacity of exercising his First Amendment rights. ...in the wallet!!!
Go with a large mob as soon as the place opens on March 17, order a Pepsi, then read "War and Peace". Occupy the place on their busiest day. The regulars who frequent this hell-hole will see that it's "full" and go elsewhere. Don't forget to tip the waitstaff, as the majority of their income is from tips.

Que viva Los San Patricios! I'll show up wearing green in homage, although I'm not Irish. Mad respects to them, but not to Monahan, the Minutemen, and any like minded thugs.
