An Iraqi Resistance bomb exploded by a US patrol on the main road to the provincial government office building in ar-Ramadi, some 100km west of Baghdad at 4pm local time Friday afternoon.

The correspondent for Mafkarat al-Islam reported a source in the Iraqi puppet army as saying that a US foot patrol was walking up the street when an Resistance bomb that had been planted in a cigarette vending kiosk blew up by the side of the road. The blast, which was set off by remote-controlled detonation, killed four US troops and wounded other American soldiers. Afterwards, US troops arrested four Iraqi passersby, asserting that they might have been involved in the deadly attack.

Oh come now, Sheepdog

by Fact Checker Monday, Mar. 13, 2006 at 1:42 AM

Lots of hot air and smoke, but what, if anything at all, do you really know about Negroponte. Answer: a big fat nothing. All you do is post hate and you get away with it as long as you restrict it to capitalist types. But it spills over onto other leftists with a regularity which escapes few.

You post no facts, not even links. You just character assassinate the man with no research. In his case, people let you slide. But who is next on your hit list - people you deem as "mere liberalis" no doubt. Or "not radical enough".

And before long, any of us other IMC readers could become the one you post your attacks against.

This style of pic-n-post hit and run does more harm than good. People don't want to get involved with IMC LA or any other site you stalk.

Yes, this is a challenge. It would be nice if you didn't always and without exception hide behind a fake name - a sock puppet name - so your violent impulses could be brought to accountability.

Lacking that, I do challenge you to back up your claims about Negorponte.

FYI he wasn't even in El Salvador at the time which you allege...he was stationed in Honduras.

Get your facts straight, if you have any. Negroponte has never been clearly established to be involved with the human rights violations.

Just because you smell bacon, don't mean squat. It could be coming from anywhere...perhaps you were cooking some pork yourself?

So - - let's see what you come up with. I'll be back.

specicially - the nuns

by Clarifying Fact Check Monday, Mar. 13, 2006 at 1:47 AM

Negroponte had nothing to do with the nuns.
Would you yourself ever even be fit for company of a nun? They are all about being peaceful. You are clearly not at peace with yourself, homie.

Let's see some facts connecting the nuns to Negroponte.

BTW all the violent insurrectionary posts just bring more FBI heat down on all of the people who are willing to put their name to Indymedia.

Thanks.

How do you spell P-R-O-V-A-C-A-T-U-E-R????

Maybe your mission is really just to shut down Indymedia?

Nuetral Point of View

by Peeace Maker Monday, Mar. 13, 2006 at 2:10 AM

BOTH VIEWS HAVE MERIT

Negroponte is shady, but he is made of Teflon. No one ever made it stick. It seems that Fact Checker and Sheepdog are really fundamentally in agreement but there is an 800 Pound Elephant sitting on the Keyboard: Negroponte has never been successfully exposed...the smell of pig roasting is probably Negroponte's toe on the tip of the fire place...but until people start working cooperatively he is going to slide through the history books as some kind of dutifulpublic servant...gosh, I din know nuthin' bout all those skeletons out there in Honduras...

Maybe instead of arguing with one another we could do something constructive like put together a War Crimes indictment of John Negorponte...

But then, it's a lot easier just to flame other IMCistas...

Ambassador to Honduras (1981 - 1985)
From 1981 to 1985 Negroponte was the U.S. ambassador to Honduras. During his tenure, he oversaw the growth of military aid to Honduras from $4 million to $77.4 million a year. Critics say that during his ambassadorship, human rights violations in Honduras became systematic.

The previous U.S. ambassador to Honduras, Jack Binns, who was appointed by President Jimmy Carter, made numerous complaints about human rights abuses by the Honduran military and claimed he fully briefed Negroponte on the situation before leaving the post. When the Reagan administration came to power, Binns was replaced by Negroponte, who has consistently denied having knowledge of any wrongdoing. Later, the Honduras Commission on Human Rights accused Negroponte himself of human rights violations but his critics have failed, to date, in making those charges stick.

Negroponte supervised the construction of the El Aguacate air base where Nicaraguan Contras were trained by the U.S., and which some critics say was used as a secret detention and torture center during the 1980s. In August 2001, excavations at the base discovered 185 corpses, including two Americans, who are thought to have been killed and buried at the site.

Negroponte is suspected by some commentators to have known of human rights abuses carried out by CIA-trained operatives in Honduras in the 1980s. Such allegations seldom nail him down to any specific knowledge of any specific violations, but rather refer to the vigor of his anti-communist zeal. Such zeal may be suggestive but nothing more. A typical complaint is, for example, this The New York Times report that Negroponte carried out "the covert strategy of the Reagan administration to crush the Sandinistas government in Nicaragua." That may well be true, but it does nothing to prove that anyone's human rights were violated.

Records also show that a special intelligence unit (commonly referred to as a "death squad") of the Honduran armed forces, Battalion 3-16, trained by the CIA and the Argentine 601st Intelligence Battalion and Army Intelligence Service, kidnapped, tortured and killed hundreds of people, including U.S. missionaries. Critics charge that Negroponte knew about these human rights violations and yet continued to collaborate with the Honduran military while lying to Congress.

In May 1982, a nun, Sister Laetitia Bordes, who had worked for ten years in El Salvador, went on a fact-finding delegation to Honduras to investigate the whereabouts of thirty Salvadoran nuns and women of faith who fled to Honduras in 1981 after Archbishop Óscar Romero's assassination. Negroponte claimed the embassy knew nothing about the nuns. However, in a 1996 interview with The Baltimore Sun, Negroponte's predecessor, Jack Binns, said that a group of Salvadorans, among whom were the women Bordes had been looking for, were captured on April 22, 1981, and savagely tortured by the DNI, the Honduran Secret Police, and then later thrown out of helicopters alive.

In early 1984, two American mercenaries, Thomas Posey and Dana Parker, contacted Negroponte, stating they wanted to supply arms to the Contras after the U.S. Congress had banned further military aid. Documents show that Negroponte brought the two together with a contact in the Honduran armed forces. The operation was exposed nine months later, at which point the Reagan administration denied any U.S. involvement, despite Negroponte's introductions of some of the individuals. Other documents detailed a plan of Negroponte and then-Vice President George H. W. Bush to funnel Contra aid money through the Honduran government

-U.S. Death Squads in Iraq?
Some feared that when John Negroponte was appointed as ambassador to Iraq, it was a signal of very dark and evil things to come - and it seems that they may have been right. New reports indicate that U.S. leaders are considering the creation of death squads to go after insurgents and strike fear in the population. They even call this "the Salvador option," in recognition of the tactic's recent history-.

OMG I was thinking the 'Salvador' option. Your buddy Hex will be happy

your paranoia is showing again

no - a minor typo doesn't concern me, and I agree with you about this issue

my memory was jolted when you mentioned him the first time re: the Nuns

I don't disagree

finding hard evidence won't be easy on him however

this situation just goes to show that people need to spend more time working together intead of nit-picking things to death

Russia selling Iran nukes is another good example where even though Pravda admitted it, no evidence was good enough - just as none will be on this question for "fact checker" or whatever fresca is calling herself today

how does it feel ?

read everything

and when you're bored to tears after wasting your time chasing smoke, mirrors and lies you'll know who to blame

nowhere man's version of reality is starkly different than the rest of us, which comes from living in his own world with his protective skullcap on

the last link is an example - the lyrics to a song to us is simply that - lightly making fun of him

not sure what it is to him - an admission of defeat ? wrongness ?

Pravda wasn't good enough, even a detailed explaination couldn't penetrate that skullcap - might as well just make fun of him - as constructive as anything considering his condition

I'm JA, I'm smash-the-left, I'm fresca..

I automaticly become anyone he disagrees with

the same applies to anyone else

that's the essence of the nut in his nutshell
