It seems to be a fake. First off, Zinn was not young in 1984. Second, it doesn't refer to the book. Third, the IP that posted this happens to be shared by the Bureaucrash spammers.

Looks like the Bureaucrash people are trying to pull another fast one on johnk. A 10 second listen to the mp3 makes it more than obvious that that isn't Howard Zinn's voice.
Note to Bureaucrash: I know johnk and he's smarter than you guys... so give up now.
Howard Zinn was 62 years old in 1984.

Now you guys are all paranoid...which I think is kind'a funny, actually.
No, this one isn't to our credit. Though, you're right, it clearly isn't Zinn. (This guy doesn't sound nearly bitter enough). I've seen a series of 6 of these on Limewire. They've been out there for a while.

I linked here from a post about la indymedia's "censoring" practices from another indymedia site. I see what you mean about the recording, but it's interesting irregardless of who it really is.
