Beware the green boogieman!

I'm Not Terrified, Did I Miss Something?

Eleven activists have been arrested on terrorism charges.  Given the FBI's history of framing dissidents and activists, I don't believe a word of the indictment.  Nonetheless, I am confused about something.  You see, the media and the FBI are telling me that the list of events in the indictment constitute a reign of terror.  I don't know about you, but I was unaware of most of these events and after reading about them, I can tell you with no doubt that I do not feel terrorized in the least by them.

This leads me to an old observation with a new twist.  If an empty government building used to oppress horses burns in the forest and no one is there to see it, was anyone terrorized?  If terrorism is an act of violence against a civilian population with the aim of forcing or coercing political change, I cannot imagine how burning empty government buildings in remote forest areas could possibly be imagined to achieve such goals.  If the arson of a lumberyard is terrorism while blowing up civilian houses in Pakistan by CIA launched missiles is not terrorism, then is Bush a genius and Einstein a moron?

When our children go to bed at night, do you think they shutter in their beds afraid that some green anarchist boogieman will burn down a remote and empty forestry building in rural Oregon?  My guess is that the average American child is more anxious about not being left behind when the rest are sent to Iraq or Afghanistan or Iran to die in another senseless war.  I'm more terrified of Karl Rove's corrupt mind than I am of the Earth Liberation Front.  If the allegations against ELF are true, Donald Rumsfeld has killed more human beings than ELF has killed lumber splinters.  If ALF freed as many animals as Rumsfeld has murdered humans, there would be a monkey swinging from every tree.

I don't buy it.  Even if the absurd allegations were true, burning down empty buildings in the middle of forests is not terrorism.  I'm waiting for our president to get a grip and stop pissing in his panties every time a spark of fire bursts somewhere.  The rest of us have real lives to live and do not profit from hysteria the same way the dry-drunk ex-coke-addict spoiled brat frat-boy crook in the Whitehouse does.  Stop whining to us Mr. Fuck-Head-In-Chief and get a real job.
