ExxposeExxon Campaign Works to Inform Public About Oil Giant's Windfall Profits and Environmental Policies

Interview with Dave Hamilton, of the Sierra Club, conducted by Melinda Tuhus

Exxon Mobil, the world's largest oil company, recently announced quarterly profits of $9.7 billion -- its third consecutive record-breaking profit statement. The announcement came as consumers were paying record prices at the pump for gasoline, although prices have recently been dropping.

A new campaign called Exxpose Exxon is aiming to raise awareness among Americans about Exxon Mobil's windfall profits and its leading role in resisting measures to reduce global climate change, even while it lobbies heavily in Congress for opening the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge, or ANWR, to oil drilling. At the same time, some other major oil companies no longer deny that global warming is an issue and are diversifying their portfolios to include renewable energy sources and promoting conservation.

Between The Lines' Melinda Tuhus spoke with Dave Hamilton, director of Global Warming and Energy Projects at the Sierra Club. He talks about the Exxpose Exxon campaign, which is a collaboration between the Sierra Club and other environmental and public interest groups, such as MoveOn.org Political Action and True Majority.
