Members of the Bush Administration (Cheney, Rice, Brown, Bush himself, etc.) should be put to work muzzling the dogs, leashing them, and making sure that they are properly cared for until they are returned to their rightful owners. Thus occupied, they will have less time to plan murderous assaults on onter nations or cutbacks that will affect the health and well-being of Americans. Officers from the Marine Corps, the Army "Screaming Eagles," the Navy Seals, and other outlandish and harmful outfits should be put in charge of rounding up cats, luring them with catfood and catnip and then making sure that they are fed and watered until claimed by their owners or by new adopters.

While its sad that this is happening, the people you should be pissed at are the retarded owners that left their pets behind. Its been my experience that about half of all people that own a dog have no business owning it.
Bush didn't issue some order that says "They must leave their pets behind". Most pets that were left behind were left by chemically stupid idiots who can barely take care of themselves.

This is not an order Bush would give, or should I say he may not have thought to. But Emergency workers didn't allow people to bring thier pets when being forcefully removed from thier homes. And many thought they could stay, so there was little reason to plan for them

Ayatollah... I can't believe it. I'm shocked. You made a reasonable statement... one of the few that will ever appear on this site. But don't worry, someone else will come along in short order to blame Bush.

I am from Louisiana and I work with a local animal rescue/shelter. The animals are suffering now because of (1) Too many shelters will not allow people to bring their pets with them and (2) no preparations were made, on a local and state level, to ensure that safe public shelters were available for pet owners and their pets. This could have been handled at the local and state level, but it was not. Just as planning and preparations for evacuation of the very poor, elderly and sick in NO were not planned and excuted, neither were plans for pet owners and their pets. It is very, very sad to see that complacency and incompetence has cost so many - so much. Yes, I do think that the recovery effort by the Federal govenment was slow; however, if our local and state officials had been more proactive in their planning (with evacuation prior to the storm as a priority) instead of reactive, (frantically trying to rescue thousands from roof tops) many could have been spared. Now, we can only ask those who are working in the area to try and help us save the animals who had no choice whether to stay or leave. The animals are all too often forgotten during times such as this and are left to suffer. Very , Very Sad.

The reports of this are pure BULL !!! I was a rescue worker in chalmette, LA (St. Bernards Perish) from Sept. 10th thru Sept. 21. I never saw a "wagging tailed" dog, killed needlessly. The military were under orders that if dogs showed hostile intentions that they could then be destroyed because after days and weeks without food and water, larger dogs were starting to "pack up". As a firefighter going door to door searching for people, a group of growling large dogs were cause for concern, (If one charged me, it would have met a rather large tool to the head). As far as family pets, myself, other firefighter, police officers and the military saved and tried to save many dogs & cats that were locked in homes or walking the muddy, oily streets by feeding and giving them water, advising animal control people of their locations (animal control people were very scarce) and in many cases, bringing them back to our camp for care. DO NOT JUDGE the people of St. Bernard Parish. It was very evident that these people had little time (minutes in some cases) where the flood waters rose so quickly that they barely had time to get themselves into their attics and when rescuing people from rooftops, people are a priority, not pets! Many pets died as a result of being abandoned (not from the owners choice, but necessity of human life rescue) and many more were saved by the compationate actions of the emergency workers who would go out of their way to help these devistated, desparate animals...including the St. Bernard police officers.

http://www.snowballschance.org/forums/showthread.php?t=505 Go look at these pictures of the sensless slaughter in the schools in St. Bernard's Parish. Pay special attention to the the blood and the gore, maybe the bloody sex toy and the alcohol bottles tell part of the story. Check out the CNN video and the Dallas Morning News video. But then again, I'm sure this is all media propaganda!
