The L.A. Urban Policy Roundtable moderated by Earl Hutchinson and scheduled for August 20, has been cancelled. The Roundtable was to be used by Save Our State as a vehicle to build relations between the black community in Los Angeles.

The event was touted on the SOS board as an attempt to:

"send shockwaves through out the political structures at the state and federal level...shockwaves that will reverberate with debilitating impact upon our opposition in the open borders lobby."

In other words, SOS was relying on such an event to dispel any rumors that SOS is a racist group. If they could be seen working with African-Americans then they thought they could prove that they're not racists. The event was seen by some as an attempt to exploit racials tensions in L.A. .

But now it has been cancelled. And with the right-ward turn of SOS (neo-nazis have been discovered to be main participants in the SOS rallies and their message board) it seems unlikely that the chance will ever come again.

So, instead of the roundtable, it now appears that SOS has been effectively highjacked by neo-nazis in the form of the National Vanguard and the stormfront racist/fascists.

This further proof that a large minority of neo-nazis attends SOS rallies will likely eliminate any chance in the future that SOS will be able to shake the racist label.

Unfortunately for them, it is impossible to build a "moderate" anti-immigrant movement without sooner or later moving to the right (the extreme fascist right) in order to grow in numbers.

Below you can read the communication given by Joe Turner of Save Our State as to the reason for the cancellation. Hutchinson gives his reasons in the e-mail message cited by Joe Turner.

Joe Turner:
Hutchinson sent me an email canceling the roundtable discussion. The following is an excerpt explaining the reasoning.

QUOTE from Hutchinson e-mail:
We'll have to cancel the August 20 roundtable. I could not get a suitable spokesperson to represent the pro-immigrant rights position. They refused to share
the podium with SOS. The other reason, threats have been made to disrupt the event. That is totally counter to the purpose of our roundtables.

He did mention that it is possible something could be worked out at a later date.

Joe Turner:
I responded to his email with a rebuttal to these reasons and never received a response. I also followed up once more via email and never received a response, so I am not counting on ever being able to discuss this issue at the Urban Roundtable.

So, I am currently working on exploring other channels for a discussion or roundtable, attending one of these roundtables to network, etc. Will keep you posted.
