FBP makes clear in the press release that the racist language and violent references from Save Our State are not welcome in their group.

FBP is planning their Minuteman “patrols” for mid-September. The press release below, which is dated, makes reference to August 2005. That date has been pushed back.

The material below speaks for itself.

PRESS RELEASE SECTION

FBP Border Watch denies support and volunteer offer due to past racial remarks

FBP has no room for such individuals

Date of Release: May 3, 2005

Friends of the Border Patrol is announcing we have denied an offer of support from an organization and it’s leadership for our upcoming August 2005 FBP Border Watch. The organization in question is SaveOurState.org, led by Mr. Joseph Turner, and is not related to Save Our State, led since 1993 by Ron Prince, principle co-Author of Prop 187.

FBP will not be placed in a position of questionable associations. In January of this year, Mr. Turner posted on his website, "Bring your bats fellas, if we’re lucky, we’re gonna need them...PING!" KFI's John Ziegler addressed this issue with him on his nighttime talk-show and Mr. Turner showed no remorse. Instead, Mr. Turner laughed about it and did not comprehend what his statement could have led to. That showed a lack of awareness, experience, and social understanding in suggesting such a mindless action. There's no room for such nonsense in our organization, or in the FBP Border Watch. Willful intent to incite violence was clearly established, and we have provided the Ziegler-Turner transcript for the public.

I guarantee the public that we will not accept any individual volunteering for the FBP Border Watch who makes such irresponsible statements. This has come from our own experience, and with the advice from a number of individuals including Jim Gilchrist (Minuteman), and Chris Simcox (Civil Homeland Defense). Our response reflects the viewpoint of our organization, and our many volunteers, and has nothing to do with pro-illegal alien supporters or their claims.

Any organization that posts such rhetoric and nonsense including Mexifornia will not be welcomed. Any organization that posts photos featuring obvious "skinheads," will not be welcome to participating in the FBP Border Watch. Any organization that posts any derogatory messages, statements, or photos, will not be welcome. Any member of an organization that provides derogatory, inflammatory statements that appear to be racially motivated will not be welcome. The bottom line is that this is not a project dealing, with race, ethnicity, or any similar issue. That is soundly rejected. The FBP Border Watch is about unlawful entry into the United States by illegal aliens, and terrorists, and supporting our U.S. Border Patrol agents. FBP rejects such attitudes, behaviors, or statements.

We thank Mr. Turner for his time, and his offer to volunteer for our project. However, in light of the circumstances, the recent history of his own actions and statements, and the types of postings he continues to allow at his website, including the use of “Mexifornia,” we must deny his offer of assistance. At this time, we urge Mr. Turner to reassess the issue and his viewpoint so he can come to a place of understanding and logic that will allow for better leadership and direction in the future. That would be of greater assistance to the movement to secure our borders, and support our Border Patrol agents than an offer of support at this time.

Ziegler - Turner Transcript

The John Ziegler Show is nightly on Los Angeles, KFI-AM 640. Mr. Joseph Turner appeared on January 14, 2005.

John Ziegler informed Turner about a press release (released back in January) that Save Our State, and Friends of the Border Patrol had denounced his racist rally.

Ziegler: "How do you respond and how does that make you feel when they philosophy call you a racist, you personally, and denounces your rally today as racist?"

Turner: "To be honest, I'm just an average person, who just decided to wake up and do something. I'm just sort of infuriated, and I also just want to laugh and brush it off....they don't even know me. I have had two interactions with them and I don't understand what they base my racist, these racist comments on."

Ziegler then read the quote "Bring your bats fellas, if we are lucky, we are gonna need them...PING!"

Ziegler: "Did you say that?"

Turner: "Well that's just a little hyperbole to rally up the troops."

Ziegler: "Well it certainly sounds like you are ready to incite a riot or violence against illegal immigrants."

Turner: "No we're not. Basically it's saying be prepared to defend yourself. If you go back to instances like 1996...." interuption by Ziegler

Ziegler: "Whoa, whoa, whoa. Wait a minute. You said if we are lucky, we are gonna need them. That's not defense. That's not defending yourself. That's not the type of verbage you use if you are thinking about defending yourself. You don't say if we are lucky we're gonna to need bats"

Turner: "Well that's just hyperbole, first of all. Just rallying up the troops. Just fraternizing with your friends on the message board. The other part is there's nothing as far as initiating any type of violence at all."

End of passage....
