FORWARD WIDELY!

Join the counter-demonstration against the “Anti-Illegal Alien Rally” on July 1st.

Protest the Minutemen!

In their own words:

“All Patriots are invited to a Minuteman Rally by a few good Marine Minutemen of AZ:
When: Friday, July 1st, 2005
Where: Phoenix, AZ (in front of State Capitol)
1700 West Washington Street
Time: 10 am to around 1 pm
Bring: American Flags, water, sunscreen
Speakers: Chris Simcox, Jim Gilchrist, Representative Russell Pearce, Randy Graf, Randy Pullen, more to come...
Theme: SECURE OUR BORDERS, NOW!!!!”

All who support human rights need to come out and show solidarity with people being targeted by prejudice, racism, and injustice. Undocumented immigrants from Mexico and South America are being attacked more and more often by U.S. citizens, armed vigilantes, and legislators. Attitudes about “illegal aliens” also negatively affect all Latinos, US citizens or not.

Many of the anti-immigrant proponents claim that the U.S. is being invaded by non-citizens, that the immigrants who don’t go through the proper ("legal") means to become citizens or who don’t assimilate are disrespecting “our culture.”
Whose culture? These anti-illegal immigration folks believe that there is a right way to be American- this attitude is often racist, homophobic, and against gender equality. For instance, speakers for this event, Randy Graf and Representative Russell Pearce are not only against illegal immigration (Pearce claims it is destructive to family values), but are also anti-choice and against gay marriage. We are all affected by these attitudes and we need to directly oppose these bigots.

Why protest the Minuteman vigilantes?: While the Minuteman Project organizers say this is nothing more than a sort of neighborhood watch program having to do with the law and not with race, their website states that they're concerned with the future of the U.S. as a "tangle of rancorous, unassimilated, squabbling cultures with no common bond to hold them together."

What: Demonstration in support of human rights and dignity for undocumented immigrants
Where: Arizona State Capitol
When: Friday, July 1st, be there at 10 AM.

Spread the word, and bring your friends, let's show the Minutemen that they're not welcome in Phoenix!
