Hi,
For legal assistance for those arrested in Garden Grove this week, contact the OC Public Defender's Office Central Division in Santa Ana. The Head of Court for Central Div. is Lewis Clapp. He is damn good and so are his deputies. Lewis can formulate and coordinate an effective defense strategy. He is easy to talk to -- and will talk to you. Moreover, he will need EVERY SHRED OF EVIDENCE you can get to him right now!!! (videotapes, witnesses, pictures, etc).
Time is of the essence. DO NOT WAIT! His contact info is below.

Before ANYONE sends evidence to ANYONE, contact the legal guild. Public defenders are good people, and they may provide a good defense, but the Legal Guild is the central organizer with these types of defenses. They will often recommend a lawyer that has experience dealing with these types of defenses. If they miss an important piece of evidence, someone could go to jail on these false charges. Do NOT just start giving you footage to just any lawyer. Contact them, they may want to see it, they may not. THEN, after they know who has what, give your footage to another lawyer. DO NOT EVER give your original evidence to anyone BUT a lawyer, as many people out there MM/SOS would LOVE to destroy this type of evidence.

What kind of legal defense fund could we start and could we raise any meaningful funds?
It could have been any one of us arrested and we owe to those in jail right now. They would do the same for us, right? Solidarity means we have each other’s backs, even if we have never met each other. Knowing that you risk arrest does not stop you from protesting and knowing that if you are arrested people, (total strangers) will come to your aid is what the global justice movement is all about.
I hope the jail vigil continues and grows. I hope everyone is released soon and that they were not mistreated beyond the unlawful arrests they have already suffered. If they are still in jail come Saturday then a “Free Them Now” protest at the jail is called for and the word should go out for it. Most people will have the day off and it could be well attended.
This event has been well covered by KPFK, Indymedia and the word is out about what really happened to those outside the corporate media matrix. The corporate local news covered it too, but with airtime to the MM and slanted images of the protest, however word of the event has gone out beyond the usual non-corporate outlets to a wider audience. Despite the MM and GGPD violence it was a good day to protest.
In solidarity
