SANTA MONICA, May 12, 2005 - Students at Santa Monica College protested the presence of war recruiters at SMC’s career day today. Students confronted the recruiters directly and challenged their claims of combat free career positions in the military. The students were civil but direct and unwavering in their anger toward the presence of the recruiters at their career day.

Campus police did appear at one point. There were no arrests. This reporter saw a crowd of 10-20 students protesting and arguing with the recruiters and zero students expressing any interest in signing up.

Military in general

by Minister of Wolves Wednesday, Oct. 12, 2005 at 2:17 PM

I applaud those who protest the war. I applause those who fought in the Wars that have given the citizens of the United States the Freedoms that they have today. If people where to step back and realize the importance of a military, then there would be no conflicts. Think about what Freedoms you would loose if there were not a military that fought for the Freedom's that you so rightly have. Lets take away your Freedom of Speech. You would not be able to freely express yourself. Let alone the Newspapers. Now lets take away your right to a speedy trial, right to remain silent, right to trial by jury and the list continues. This Country is so wrapped up into Protesting the War that they forget why we are at War. But it wouldn't matter to anyone if they no longer got paid top dollar for thier job because there was no military to protect those rights.

we know why. And it sucks. And it is wrong. And the military doesn't give us rights. We the people do. The military is there to uphold and obey the constitution. Civilian authority is the only way we can live in a democracy.
