Ms. Vaughn will reflect on the realities that confront families today, and the courageous ways that women are addressing these issues.
Alexandria House, founded in 1996, is a transitional residence and house of hospitality providing safe and supportive housing for women and children in the process of moving from emergency shelter to economic stability and permanent housing.
Over 85% of the women who have moved through the House’s transitional program have succeeded in securing employment and permanent housing. The program includes financial management, goal setting processes, childcare, healthcare and access to other needed resources such as job search assistance, counseling, education and skill-building, CalWORKS applications and legal counseling.
The House, which holds the needs of women who are economically poor to be central, is intentionally multicultural and anti-racist. Alexandria House also serves its broader neighborhood community by providing educational and enrichment opportunities for residents and neighbors alike.
