& Tsunami Victims (NAASCON)
From: naascon_news@yahoo.com
January 22, 2005
For the last week, HOT 97's Miss Jones in the Morning Show has
been running a culturally insensitive and degrading skit for
the last week called the Tsunami Song
that ridicules the victims
of the Tsunami as "ch*nks" whose children will now be sold into
child slavery.
Below is an excerpt from the skit:
WARNING: CONTAINS EXPLICIT LANGUAGE
There was a time when the sun was shining bright
So I went down to the beach to catch me a tan
Then the next thing I knew, a wave twenty feet high
Came and washed your country away
And all at once you could hear the screaming ch*nks
And no one was safe from the wave
There were Africans drowning, little Chinamen swept away You could hear
God laughing, "Swim, you b*tches, swim!"
So now you're screwed, it's the tsunami
You better run or kiss your ass away, go find your mommy
I just saw her float by, a tree went through her head
and now your children will be sold to child slavery (2X)
In an attempt to minimize public outcry and escape unscathed, HOT 97 has
already disabled the link to the Tsunami Song. However, below is
a link to the mp3 for you to listen for yourself:

Although HOT 97 has recently issued a formal apology, it does not reflect
the atrocious nature of their act:
2) OFFICIAL
STATEMENT ON AIRING OF TSUNAMI PARODY SONG
January 21, 2005
HOT 97 regrets the airing of material that made light of a serious and
tragic event. We apologize to our listeners and anyone who was offended.
HOT97 takes pride in its community involvement and in the last few weeks
has joined with broadcasters nationwide to raise money for victims of
the Tsunami. Our relief effort will result in a substantial cash donation.
As an additional sign of HOT 97’s commitment to the cause, Miss Jones
in the Morning, along with her entire staff, have agreed to contribute
one week’s pay to Tsunami Relief efforts.

Re:
Airing of Tsunami song at Miss Jones in the Morning Show
We
had been deeply outraged by a recent radio broad cast by New York City
HOT 97's "Miss Jones in the Morning Show" ran a racist
song call Tsunami Song that ridicules the victims
of the Tsunami as "ch*nks" whose children will now be sold into
child slavery.
Their
actions had been deeply disrespect the people of Asia, and at least 225,000
people who died from the tragedy.
Therefore,
we ask your station:
1)
Remove Miss Jones and all others involved in the creation of the
Tsunami Song from the show.
2)
The station will offer public apology on the radio.
3)
The staffs of the station will require to meet with immigrant community
and victims of the tsunami, a community dialogue for racism and cultural
awareness.
We
hope the station will do it the right way this time, or we will reserve
a further action at the future.
