James Forman, leader of SNCC, passed away on the 10th, at age 76, or colon cancer.

Of relevance to activists:

- Forman came into SNCC and made it militant, by taking care of the boring issues, and also pushing for direct action.

- Forman did not distinguish between voting and direct action, seeing them as both part of the same movement.

- SNCC used the Black Panther image first, and pushed a grassroots, involved politics. The BPP later carried on with this politics.
