First Time Director: How to Make Your Breakthrough Movie
By Gil Bettman
Michael Wiese Productions 2003 307 pgs.

Gil Bettman´s book, First Time Director, is a very helpful tool for filmmakers. It is a good supplement for film school. Gil Bettman has a lot of experience directing: three feature films, many t.v. shows, and music videos. He shares many personal stories and experiences to engage the reader, and gains trust thusly. He also offers tip after tip unlimitedly. It is a very impressive book, and is very useful. Some chapters are required reading for one of my classes.
My main critique is Bettman´s breaking down scenes from movies. These are not as practical or as useful as the other chapters, and they slow the reading down.
Despite the flaws, I recommend this book.
