Los Angeles. Local 11 members--housekeepers, cooks, servers, dishwashers, bellmen, front desk and PBX workers—announced a boycott this week of the nine luxury hotels of the Hotel Employers' Council after six months of threats and intimidation, the fear of an employer lockout, and termination of the workers' union contract. Elected officials, community groups, and clergy vow to honor the request “to avoid eating, meeting or sleeping” at hotels involved in the labor dispute to put financial pressure on the Hotel Council. Below find pictures of the picket line in front of the Wilshire Grand Hotel in Downtown Los Angeles on Thursday, November 18th at 7:30 PM.

In Downtown Los Angeles, Thursday, November 18th, a boycott rally took place in front of the Wilshire Grand Hotel.

From a Local 11's flyer-- 3,000 hotel workers have been threatened with a lockout by 9 luxury hotels: The Bonaventure, Century Plaza, Hyatt Regency LA, Hyatt West LA, Millennium Biltmore, Regent Beverly Wilshire, Sheraton Universal, St. Regis and Wilshire Grand Hotels.

The federal government is investigating the charges that the hotels have illegally threatened the hotel workers. The LA Hotel Employers Council that comprise the 9 hotels mentioned above have terminated the hotel worker's contract and won't sign a new one.

They make the hotel workers pay to get health insurance for their family which is illegal.

Hotel housekeepers in Los Angeles are paid below the federal poverty level and $8 less per hour than in New York.
