This month August saw 55 dead coalition troops up to the 22th, in still occupied Iraq. What is wrong about names like "al anbar" province, Najaf or Lance Cpl. Seth Huston(19). All these names can be found on CNN`s official casualty report. Remarkably only 241 of those sacrificed are over 30 years old, the vast majority of 664 accounts for the under 30 years old soldiers. 431 of the lost were under 24, when they gave their life for the removal of the evil saddam hussein and the great initiative of liberalization of the middle east.
Notably, most of these youngsters killed in the death zones of najaf or al anbar, where uneducated, poor and life-tired wannabe-martyrs are looming in the dusty streets, were there to receive pay for education and noble reputation. Isn`t it memorably, that the education-willing are fighting other youths, apparently uneducated in every aspect of life.
My point is, that the unrespondible strategy of the bush team creates a unnessecary spiral of sacrifice and martydom on both sides. Firstly: saddam`s gone, Bin Laden "par exemple" is still missing. So why are there ten times more personel in Iraq than in Pakistan and Afghanistan?
Secondly: Iraq is free, sovereignity has been transfered. It means no more threat to the U.S. than before the war. Were the sanctions, thus barring the civil population from free buisnesses and education(e.g. computers) any good in preparing Iraqis for democracy and the rule of law?
Was it a good service to the troops in Iraq, to continuously speak of an occupation, even to joke "Nobody likes to be occupied", which G.Bush told some journalists, a while ago. All questions are easily denied.
I think too, that those insurgents have no reasonable goals, nor any future. But do we have to admit the same for the american strategy? A permanent guerilla war for the sake of a military occupation, most didn`t want at all, most don`t want nomore. Of course the war costs a lot of money, but what about the 1000 americans lost, what about the cost, the USA will have to pay in the future for the loss of respect, security and trust on an international level.
Of course the USA can control a country, but it can`t control the whole world. George Bush has most of his life behind him, so do cheney, rumsfeld or ashcroft, whatever their unholy names be. But this buddy, Lance Cpl. Seth Huston, aged 19, Perryton, Texas (Died from injuries received due to hostile action in Al Anbar Province, Iraq, on August 21, 2004) had his whole Life before him.
