Friends and Fellow Activists,

We are announcing a very important and exciting development, the formation of a new organization, the Party for Socialism and Liberation (PSL). Founded in July 2004, the PSL is an organization of leaders and activists from many different struggles and many cities across the country. Most of us have been deeply involved in building the new global movement against war, racism and oppression that has emerged over the past three years.

The PSL believes there is only one alternative to
capitalism: socialism. Capitalism is an enemy of workers and all oppressed people. We need revolutionary change. The capitalist class of bosses, bankers and landlords has all the political and economic power in society, completely dominating the mass media. Join us in building a new socialist movement to challenge the power of the corporate and banking elite and the Military-Industrial Complex.

The first issue of our new monthly magazine “Socialism and Liberation” (August 2004) features vibrant, analytical articles about Cuba, Iraq and the Middle East, Venezuela, the Philippines, the U.S. labor movement, same-sex marriage, struggles against police brutality, racial profiling, and immigrant bashing, and much more, including two articles in Spanish. We urge you to review some of the articles on line at www.SocialismAndLiberation.org, and consider taking out a subscription to the magazine.

Read the “Who We Are” statement on our web site to find out why we are launching a new party at this time:
http://www.socialismandliberation.org/mag/index.php?aid=40.

We hope you will join us for the inaugural Los Angeles
meeting of the PSL on Saturday, August 21, 2 pm at the
Southern California Library for Social Studies and
Research (info above).
