A weekly 30 minute review of news and opinion recorded from a shortwave radio. 2 files- broadcast quality (13.3MB) and quick download (3.3MB). With times and freqs for listening at home. Free to rebroadcast. Netherlands, Russia, China, and Cuba.

Dear Radio Friend,

The latest Shortwave Report (July 30) is up at the website http://www.outfarpress.com/outfarpress/shortwave.shtml in both broadcast quality (13.3MB) and quickdownload or streaming form (3.3MB) (29:00)

This week's show features stories from Radio Netherlands, the Voice of Russia, China Radio International, and Radio Havana Cuba.

From Netherlands- A press review on the Democratic convention in the US, and a booklet on preparing for a terrorist attack that is being sent to all households in England. Doctors Without Borders is pulling out of Afghanistan after 20 years of assistance there. A spokesperson describes the events and policies leading to this unprecedented action.

From Russia- Israeli nuclear whistleblower Vanunu recently released from jail, is not being allowed to travel anywhere. The UN Special Envoy for Iraq says that the US invasion of Iraq has created many more problems than it has solved. Last year the US Congress appropriated 18 billion dollars for Iraq reconstruction, but only 400 million of those dollars have been disbursed for the work.

From China- Chinese officials are denying reports that there is a total crackdown on Buddhism in Tibet. A Chinese businesswoman was attacked by Homeland Security at the Canadian/US border, who claimed they mistook her for a drug dealer. This is a top news story in China.

From Cuba- The first Social Forum of the Americas was held this week in Ecuador, and a new power bloc of Latin American nations was established. A former President of Venezuela, living in Miami, says Hugo Chavez must "die like a dog." On Monday Fidel Castro gave a speech in response to GW Bush’s remarks that Cuba welcomed "sex tourism." Castro went on to analyze Bush's alcoholic personality. Then a Viewpoint on Wednesday, which was one of the most violent days in Iraq since the US installed a government there.

All that plus times and frequencies for listening at home. It's free to rebroadcast, please notify me if you're airing it and haven't notified me in the last month, please mention the website if you only air a portion. If you just want to listen and have a slow connection, try the streaming version- lower sound quality but good enough and way easier if you don't have a high-speed internet connection. If streaming is a problem because of your slow connection, download the smaller file- it takes 20 minutes or less, and will play swell in any mp3 player application (RealPlayer, Winamp, Quicktime, iTunes, etc) you have on your computer.

This program will be aired on Friday evening at 7pm on KZYX/Z Philo CA, you might be able to stream via http://www.kzyx.org

There are several other streams that work better-  http://www.freakradio.org  Freak Radio Santa Cruz (96.3fm) now streams this program on Friday at 9:30am (PST)

Also check out LavaLamp Radio (Japan)- http://www.radiolavalamp.org

streaming the SWR, check out the schedule.

And the Partytown streams are great and informative- http://www.partytown.com/radio

I hope you'll listen and air this if you're connected with a radio station. I am still wondering how to get financially compensated for the 25 hours I put into this program weekly- any ideas are appreciated. Any stations rebroadcasting this (or listeners) are welcome to donate for production costs. You can do so through the website. Many thanks to those that have donated! No Guilt!
