The first reported case of AIDS in Japan — a homosexual man, who apparently contracted the disease while in the U.S. — was in 1985, although two hemophiliacs had died earlier from what now is believed to have been AIDS. Eighteen years later, the disease is still not even a blip on Emiko's radar.

If 'AIDS really is a sexually transmitted syndrome (common cause -'HIV'- for old existing diseases) then why is there almost no 'AIDS' in Japan.

Total cases in twenty years amount to only 6,000 or 325 a year.

The AIDS has devastated gays far more than straights, particularly gay males.

Many wealthy Hollywood gays have also died of the AIDS, so if there be poverty killing, its the poverty of self-control and knoweldge, not money.

King, you understate the issue. The article linked says
Poverty is definitely a factor, but the cause is blood exchange.

Risky behavior today includes the use of spermicides: they irritate the skin, opening it up to blood exchanges. That nonoxynol-9 is not safe.

Toothbrushes and razors of infected people are not safe.

Oral sex is also risky. The virus can be absorbed in the esophagus.

Other STDs, like herpes and syphillis, increase risk, by opening lesions on the skin.

Probably, poverty is a risk factor because poor nutrition, fatigue, and pollution weaken the immune system. Poor people may find themselves not consuming the "safe-sex" media that more affluent people watch and read. They are more likely to drop out of high school, and could miss out on AIDS education.

And, finally, there's the issue of testing. The only way to get good numbers is to conduct random samples, and then use that statistic to adjust the actual number of self-reported cases.

According to the linked article, condom use, in general, is high, because birth control pills were only recently made available. The amount of safe behavior in Japan may be higher than we realize.

You say that the young kids in Japan are having a lot of sex.

Then you say young kids don't use condoms... but that's from a study in America.

The actual fact is, condom use is very high in Japan.

According to the linked article, 46% of couples in Japan use condoms for contraception. The culture supports condom use.

STUDY EXPOSES MYTH OF SEXUAL TRANSMISSION

The 10-year Padian study observed sexually active

couples in which one partner was HIV positive. The result: in 10 years, not one uninfected partner contracted HIV, even though all participants admitted to having sex without condoms. The study states, 'We followed up 175 HIV-discordant couples over time, for a total of approximately 282 couple-years of follow up. The longest duration of follow-up was 12 visits (6 years).

We observed no seroconversion [infection] after entry into the

study." In the three-year Stewart study (1985) not one male partner of HIV-positive women contracted HIV. Prostitution is not even listed as an HIV risk category by the CDC, because of the extremely low incidence of HIV transmission to clients who have no other risk factors (i.e. drug abuse).

These findings bolster the hypothesis of some AIDS scientists that chronic malnutrition and other environmental factors, and not a sexually-transmitted virus, are the causes of weakened immunity in people diagnosed with one of the nearly 30 AIDS-defining diseases (which vary from country to country).

and yet the rate of French AIDS cases is 1.93 (nearly twice as high*) compared to Denmark. In other words half the condom use creates twice the AIDS (cases not death) rate.

When you adjust for the higher number of sex acts per year in Denmark (152 v. 143) shown in the Durex study (compared to France) the figure shows that DOUBLE THE CONDOM USAGE RESULTS IN (OVER) DOUBLE THE AIDS CASES. This is fairly consistent in ALL European countries and so cannot be dismissed as a anomaly.

Clearly it seems that 'Safe Sex' is natural sex after all.

Caucasian heterosexual women (even including I..V. drugs users) represent an 'AIDS' risk of only about ONE IN A MILLION or less. In California last year there were only 79 cases.
