“The unexamined life is not worth living.” -Socrates

Wesley Cook, Brianne Baker and perceptioncollective.org are proud to announce

SITUATIONAL AWARENESS: an evening of audio/visual activism to be held August

28, 2004 at Inshallah Gallery, 244 South Main Street in Downtown Los Angeles

benefiting the Adbusters Media Foundation and the Moveon.org Political Action

Committee.

CALL FOR ARTISTS OF ALL DISCIPLINES:

SITUATIONAL AWARENESS, a perceptioncollective.org production with co-curators

Wesley Cook and Brianne Baker, wants you (and your friends)! Based on the

belief that analysis and critical examination form the backbone of any

functioning society, we are looking for artistic partners in all mediums to

help us raise social and political awareness through creative political

commentary.

In an effort to take our collective activism beyond the (usually) democratic

state of California to “middle America”, a central goal of SITUATIONAL

AWARENESS will be to raise money for the non-profit Adbusters Media Foundation

and the Moveon.org PAC in order to assist them with their strategic missions of

producing and placing print and video advertising campaigns with progressive

messages in media outlets within crucial swing states as the election of 2004

draws near.

We are seeking expressions of political awareness in whatever medium you choose

to work for this collaborative one night show. Space and time will be made

available to showcase as many audio, visual, performance, and conceptual

artists as possible; provided such work presents some form of reflection,

commentary, or action against electoral apathy and political disenfranchisement.

Selection for this show will be based on relevance to the above themes,

timeliness of submittal, and availability of time and space. A small

contribution to the donation fund will be requested of participating artists in

order to offset production costs and ensure a sizeable donation to the chosen

beneficiary organizations.

For their contributions selected artists will not only enjoy the intangible

benefits of supporting what we believe to be two wonderful causes, they will

also receive valuable publicity in the forms of hyper-linkage from

perceptioncollective.org’s SITUATIONAL AWARENESS website, placement on the

party flyers, mention in any press coverage we are able to generate, as well as

exposure to a conscious crowd during the event.

If interested in participating as an artist, please contact Wesley Cook at

situationalawareness@perceptioncollective.org with a brief bio, artist

statement, jpeg images (no larger than 2mb) if a visual work, description of

work you wish to perform if a performance piece or mail a demo CD if interested

in musical performance, spoken word or Djing to 411 S. Main #618 LA CA 90013

attn: SITUATIONAL AWARENESS. If you wish to perform music or spoken word and

don’t have a demo, email with a description of what you would like to perform

and we will see what we can do. All submissions must be received no later than

July 31, 2004. Artists will be notified no later than August 6 with further

details.

If interested in participating as an assistant curator, general volunteer,

benefactor, or attendee and you would like more information please contact

situationalawareness@perceptioncollective.org, we would love to hear from you!

Finally, please feel free to forward this message to anyone you believe

may be interested in participating or attending. This is a grassroots, 100%

volunteer effort to raise funds and awareness. Thank you in advance for your

support.

Sincerely,

Wesley Cook
