Geneva Accords on Treatment of Prisoners of War

by Beagle Sunday, May. 23, 2004 at 6:42 AM

Much has been made of the clear violations of the Geneva Accords by Nazi USA, but the provisions of these accords are not known to most Americans. Now is the time to become familiar with these accords, detailed on the website of the UN Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights. See: http://www.unhchr.ch/html/menu3/b/91.htm

These principles were drawn up in 1949 and enacted in 1950, as a direct response to the horrors perpetrated by Nazi Germany during World War 2, which was officially 1939-1945, although the war against Spain, 1936-1939, is often cited as the opening shots of World War 2.

For an excellent analysis of the violations and lies by Nazi USA regarding the Geneva Accords, see "Bush's Legal Propagandist Defends The Indefensible: Torture in Afghanistan and Iraq" by Richard Hoffman and Mike Head, May 20, 2004, World Socialist Website, at:

Remember Nuremberg?

by casual historian Sunday, May. 23, 2004 at 6:57 AM

>Gonzales wrote a January 25, 2002 memo to Bush, urging him to disregard the “obsolete” and “quaint" provisions of the Geneva Convention, precisely because the interrogation methods it was already employing against prisoners captured in Afghanistan were in violation of the Convention, leaving US officials open to prosecution for war crimes.<

These are crimes that resulted in gallows for the apologists of the 3rd Riech. How far we have come from a moral high ground after containing the horrors of WWll to the sewers of the Bush family Nazi mentors.
