EMERGENCY PROTEST AGAINST ISRAELI WAR CRIMES IN GAZA

LOCATION:
Israeli Consulate in Los Angeles
6380 Wilshire Blvd (between San Vicente and Fairfax)
Los Angeles, CA 90048

DATE & TIME:
Thursday, May 20th, 2004
4:00 - 6:00 pm

The Israeli Occupation Forces are committing war crimes throughout Gaza, killing civilians and demolishing homes. This month alone, at least 30 Palestinians have been killed already in Gaza, 21 of them civilians. A UN report issued on 5/11/04 states that, in the last ten days, at least 31 residential buildings in the Gaza Strip have been demolished or damaged beyond repair by the Israeli Occupation Forces. The recent demolitions have left more than 1,100 Palestinians homeless, bringing the total number of people to have lost their homes in the Gaza Strip to 17,594. The deliberate and wanton practice by the Israeli army of destroying homes and civilian property is a grave violation of international human rights and humanitarian law, as per the Fourth Geneva Convention, and constitutes a war crime. The Israeli government has promised that more homes will be demolished in the coming days.

What is happening today is nothing less than ethnic cleansing. Rafah - indeed much of Palestine - is becoming a wasteland of destitution. Silence is complicity, and tears are not enough. Let us not sit silently while those atrocious crimes against humanity go unchecked. We appeal to all supporters of human rights to stand up and protest this loudly by all available means: contacting representatives, writing to the media, sending donations for humanitarian relief, and joining this emergency protest on Thursday. See www.alaqsaintifada.org/la for more information.

Stop Israeli state terrorism!
No to Apartheid!
Stop U.S. funding to Israel now!
