Vietnamese and Cubans celebrated the 33rd anniversary of the Bay of Pigs Victory -the first US defeat in Latin America- with an emotional act of solidarity held in Hanoi on Monday. Dong Van Tai, vice president of the Vietnam-Cuba Friendship Association and president of the Vietnamese Congress Foreign Affairs Commission attended the meeting. Other participants included directors and officials of the Vietnamese Communist Party, solidarity organizations, professors and students from the school of medicine where the ceremony took place. Cuban participants included first Deputy Auditing and Control Minister Rey Perez Fonticoba and the charge d´affaires of the Cuban embassy in Vietnam Gabriel Perez Tarrau as well as diplomats, officials and constructors who are working in Vietnam. The president of the school of
medicine, Luu Huu Tu, said the Bay of Pigs victory thwarted US plans to overthrow the Cuban revolution and inspired the progressive people of the world. Huu Tu explained that Cuba went through many difficulties after that victory and
had to defend the revolution and work for the construction of the country amid the US blockade.
